Gimpo City (Mayor Kim Byung-soo) will host the ‘2024 Dadam Festival’ on September 21st at Gimpo Art Village, where you can enjoy Gimpo’s traditions, culture, and art all in one place. This festival is the second event that combines the existing Gimpo Arts Festival, Jungbong Cultural Festival, Chuseok Event, Folk Arts Festival, Tongjin Dure Nori, and Pungmul Competition, and it will significantly expand Gimpo’s traditional cultural content that citizens have not been able to easily access, and will present more diverse programs.

This year’s Dadam Festival is expected to be a citizen-participatory festival with a total of 68 experiences, performances, and exhibitions, including commemorative performances and performances, and is expected to be a festival with everything from things to see, things to do, things to eat, and even healing. Audience-oriented events and experience programs are organized by time zone so that anyone, including youth, families, friends, and couples, can enjoy them according to their own tastes and times.

In particular, the ‘Jungbong Cultural Festival’ that honors Mr. Jo Heon Jungbong, a representative figure of Gimpo, is included in the Dadam Festival and draws attention. The performance and experience programs themed on Mr. Jungbong’s ‘Jibusangso’, such as the ‘Dauntless Axe Contest’ and ‘Jungbong Face Painting’, are expected to be the core events of the Jungbong Cultural Festival. The Jungbong Cultural Festival, which the Gimpo Cultural Center (Director Park Yoon-gyu) has developed for a long time to meet the eye level of citizens, is receiving special attention at the Dadam Festival.

The Gimpo Cultural Foundation (CEO Lee Gye-hyeon) is also preparing a variety of Chuseok events. There will be a ‘Gimpo History Quiz Contest’ to learn about Gimpo’s history, and folk experience programs such as running in Hanbok, throwing rubber shoes, and catching rice cakes. There will also be art and workshop experiences such as making calligraphy mood lights, and programs that exhibit school life and play culture from the 60s to 80s. In addition, there will be an agricultural market where you can buy local agricultural products.

The Gimpo Arts Festival is hosted by the Gimpo branch of the Korean Federation of Arts and Culture Organizations (CEO Yoo Young-hwa) and will feature a variety of performances, poetry exhibitions, and collaborations with orchestras and jazz musicians. Guest singer Jeong Dong-ha’s performance will decorate the autumn night of Chuseok.

The Gimpo Tongjin Dure Play Preservation Society (Chairman Lee Jae-beom) held a ‘Traditional Cauldron Rice Cooking Competition’ to prepare a special food event where citizens can taste the rice cooked with Gimpo rice in a large cauldron and bibimbap. 15 teams that pre-registered will participate in the competition, and any citizen can apply to participate through the Gimpo Tongjin Dure Play Preservation Society.

The Pungmul Competition hosted by the Pungmul Association (President Lee Soon-chan) will feature traditional Nongak performances by various traditional Nongak groups, including Daegod Pungmulhoe, Nonamegi, and Ulrisori. The Folk Arts Festival, hosted by Gimpo Cultural Center, will feature traditional performances such as Daemyeong Port Boat Floating Sound, Tongjin Dure Nori 12 Acts, and Jogangchi Gunpae Nori, providing citizens with an opportunity to experience forgotten traditional culture.

The 2024 Dadam Festival is expected to be a special event where you can enjoy Gimpo’s traditions and culture while fully savoring the autumn atmosphere.
