지난 9월 4일, 인천 서구는 경명공원 내 콜롬비아 참전 기념비에서 콜롬비아의 한국전쟁 참전 73주년을 기념하는 추모행사를 열었습니다. 이날 행사에는 주한콜롬비아대사관, 인천광역시, 육군 17사단, 인천보훈처 관계자 등이 참석한 가운데 전쟁 중 희생된 콜롬비아 군인들을 추모했다.
On September 4th, Incheon Seo-gu hosted a memorial event at the Colombian Military Participation Monument in Gyeongmyeong Park to honor the 73rd anniversary of Colombia’s participation in the Korean War. The event, attended by officials from the Colombian Embassy in Korea, Incheon Metropolitan City, the 17th Army Division, and the Incheon Veterans Affairs Office, paid tribute to the sacrifices of Colombian soldiers during the war.

인천상륙작전 기념주간을 맞아 인천서구(강범석 구청장)가 9월 4일 경명공원 내 콜롬비아 참전비에서 콜롬비아 참전 73주년을 기념하는 특별행사를 열었다. . 이번 행사는 주한콜롬비아대사관, 인천광역시, 육군 17사단, 인천보훈처와 협력해 진행됐다.
콜롬비아는 라틴아메리카 유일의 한국전쟁 참전국으로, 1951년 콜롬비아 해군 호위함 알미란테 파디야(Almirante Padilla)호가 한국에 도착하면서 공식적으로 참전했다. 5,100여 명의 콜롬비아 전투병이 파견되어 ‘결코 후퇴하지 않는다’는 모토 아래 금성지구 전투, 김화 400고지 전투 등 주요 전투에 크게 기여했다. 전쟁 중 콜롬비아는 213명의 사상자와 실종자를 냈고, 448명이 부상당했다.
콜롬비아 전쟁기념관은 이들 장병들의 희생을 기리기 위해 1975년 가정동에 건립됐다. 2018년 인천 2호선 지하철 공사로 인해 연희동 경명공원으로 이전하였습니다. 이후 매년 양국 간 유대를 강화하기 위해 추모식이 거행됐다.
올해 서구는 인천광역시와 협력해 전통추모제 외에 문화공연, 사진전, 홍보부스 등으로 행사를 확대했다. 이번 활동은 인천상륙작전 기념주간을 맞아 행사의 의미를 더욱 높이기 위해 기획됐다.
이날 행사에는 강범석 서구청장, 알레한드로 펠라스 로드리게스 주한 콜롬비아 대사, 유정복 인천광역시장, 이광섭 미 17사단 사령관, 홍경 인천보훈처장 등이 참석했다. 강용희 한국전참전용사회 인천지부장.

유정복 인천시장은 추모사를 통해 “콜롬비아 참전용사들과 애국영웅들의 헌신으로 지켜온 한반도의 평화를 이제 우리가 지켜내겠다”며 콜롬비아 참전용사들의 노고에 감사를 표했다. ‘세계평화도시 인천’이라는 이름이 콜롬비아 참전용사들에게 보답하는 길이 될 것입니다.”
알레한드로 펠라에스 로드리게스 콜롬비아 대사도 한국이 자국의 기여를 지속적으로 인정해 준 데 대해 깊은 사의를 표명했습니다. 이어 “73년 전 참전한 콜롬비아군을 잊지 않고 이번 추도식을 함께 해주신 대한민국과 인천광역시, 서구에 깊이 감사드린다”고 말했다. 양국 관계의 지속적인 강화.
행사에 이어 진행된 문화행사에서는 합창단과 음악공연이 펼쳐져 한국과 콜롬비아의 화합을 축하했다. 또한 콜롬비아 대사관은 콜롬비아 전통 수공예품을 전시하고, 남미의 대표 음식인 엠빠나다스(empanadas)를 참석자들에게 소개하기도 했습니다.
또한, 서구는 ‘그라시아스 콜롬비아’ 사진전을 열어 콜롬비아 대사관 기록 보관소의 한국전쟁 당시 콜롬비아 군인들의 모습과 서구청 기록물 중 추모비 과거 사진 등을 전시했다.
강범석 서구청장은 참전용사들의 희생을 기억하는 것이 중요하다고 강조하며 마무리했다. 이어 “오늘의 대한민국은 콜롬비아군을 비롯한 한국전쟁 참전용사들의 희생과 헌신 덕분에 발전을 이루었다”고 말했다. “모든 시민이 그들의 희생과 헌신을 잊지 않기를 바라며, 그 길에 인천서구도 함께해 주시기 바랍니다.”

In celebration of the Incheon Landing Operation commemoration week, Incheon Seo-gu (District Mayor Kang Beom-seok) held a special event on September 4th at the Colombian Military Participation Monument in Gyeongmyeong Park to mark the 73rd anniversary of Colombia’s involvement in the Korean War. The event was organized in collaboration with the Colombian Embassy in Korea, Incheon Metropolitan City, the 17th Army Division, and the Incheon Veterans Affairs Office.
Colombia was the only Latin American country to participate in the Korean War, officially joining the conflict in 1951 when the Colombian Navy frigate Almirante Padilla arrived in Korea. Over 5,100 Colombian combat soldiers were dispatched, contributing significantly to key battles such as the Battle of Geumseong District and the Battle of Gimhwa Hill 400 under the motto “never retreating.” During the war, Colombia suffered 213 casualties or missing soldiers, with an additional 448 wounded.
The Colombian War Memorial was initially erected in Gajeong-dong in 1975 to honor the sacrifices of these soldiers. It was relocated to Gyeongmyeong Park in Yeonhui-dong in 2018 due to the construction of the Incheon Line 2 subway. Since then, annual memorial ceremonies have been held to strengthen the bond between the two nations.
This year, in partnership with Incheon Metropolitan City, Seo-gu expanded the event to include cultural performances, photo exhibitions, and promotional booths in addition to the traditional memorial ceremony. These activities were designed to enhance the significance of the occasion during the Incheon Landing Operation commemoration week.
Among those present at the event were Seo-gu District Mayor Kang Beom-seok, Colombian Ambassador to Korea Alejandro Pelaes Rodriguez, Incheon Metropolitan City Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok, 17th Infantry Division Commander Lee Gwang-seop, Incheon Veterans Affairs Office Director Hong Gyeong-hwa, and Kang Yong-hee, head of the Incheon branch of the Korean War Veterans Association.

In his memorial address, Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok expressed gratitude for the contributions of Colombian war veterans, stating, “We will now protect the peace on the Korean Peninsula, which was preserved through the dedication of Colombian war veterans and patriotic heroes, under the name of ‘World Peace City, Incheon.’ This will be our way to repay the Colombian war veterans.”
Colombian Ambassador Alejandro Pelaes Rodriguez also expressed his deep appreciation for Korea’s continued recognition of his country’s contributions. “I am deeply grateful to the Republic of Korea, Incheon Metropolitan City, and Seo-gu for not forgetting the Colombian troops who participated in the war 73 years ago and for holding this memorial service together,” he said, adding that he hopes for the continued strengthening of ties between the two countries.
The cultural event following the ceremony featured a choir and musical performance, celebrating the harmony between Korea and Colombia. The Colombian Embassy also showcased traditional Colombian handicrafts and introduced empanadas, a well-known South American dish, to the attendees.
Additionally, Seo-gu hosted a “Gracias Colombia” photo exhibition, displaying images of Colombian soldiers during the Korean War from the Colombian Embassy’s archives, as well as past photos of the memorial monument from the Seo-gu Office’s records.
Seo-gu District Mayor Kang Beom-seok concluded by emphasizing the importance of remembering the sacrifices of war veterans. “Today, the Republic of Korea has achieved development thanks to the sacrifice and dedication of Korean War veterans, including the Colombian army,” he said. “I hope that all citizens will not forget their sacrifice and dedication, and Incheon Seo-gu will join us on that path.”
