A Heartfelt Visit by the Chinese-Korean Federation to Uiseong

On the morning of April 16, 2025, a heartwarming scene unfolded in Danbuk-myeon, Uiseong County, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. In an effort to comfort and support those who lost their homes to recent wildfires, the Chinese-Korean Central Federation visited the region, led by President Kim Mi-jung, with a message of unity and compassion.

This visit was not merely a gesture of donation. Under the guidance of President Kim, members of the Federation personally prepared and delivered ₩3.6 million in donations, ten 10kg bags of rice, and 23 pieces of women’s clothing to affected residents, symbolizing their deep empathy and solidarity.

Descendants of Independence Fighters Giving Back

What made this visit even more meaningful was that many of those who participated in the donation are descendants of Korean independence fighters who once resisted Japanese colonial rule near Harbin, China. Their ancestors’ sacrifices for the nation’s freedom are now being honored through acts of humanitarian aid for modern-day victims—a touching and powerful continuation of their legacy.

President Kim Mi-jung shared, “There was a growing concern in our overseas Korean community regarding the wildfire damage in Uiseong. This action was a natural expression of our shared sense of community.” She added, “We plan to promote long-term cooperation such as sisterhood ties between the 850,000-member diaspora and Uiseong, including initiatives to boost the sales of local agricultural specialties.”

A New Bridge Between Local and Global Economies

Kim Kyung-hwan, senior advisor and former president of the 19th Alumni Association of Samsung Middle School, emphasized the economic potential of this collaboration: “With a bridge-builder like President Kim Mi-jung linking us to the vast Chinese market, we can go beyond simple aid and explore new commercial opportunities for regional development.”

The event was attended by local figures including Principal Jeong Gu-yeong of Samsung Middle School, Uiseong Councilor Woo Chil-yoon, and Dr. Jeong Jae-geun, a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine. All welcomed the visiting delegation with warm hearts and sincere gratitude.

Uiseong County Mayor Kim Joo-soo expressed, “This generous support will bring great comfort to the wildfire victims. The funds will be used transparently and responsibly for disaster recovery and resident support.”

Danbuk-myeon Chief Kang Dong-gu also stated, “Despite their busy schedules, the Chinese-Korean Federation made a special trip from Seoul to extend their heartfelt compassion. We are truly grateful for this act of kindness.”
