Ten years after the devastating attacks on the Yazidi people of Sinjar by ISIL, the UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria has renewed its call for justice and accountability for the crimes committed. The attacks led to the displacement, killing, and capturing of thousands of Yazidis, devastating the 400,000-strong community. The UN emphasizes the need for international cooperation to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable and the victims receive justice and reparations.

The Yazidi genocide occurred in 2014 when ISIL forces attacked the Sinjar region in Iraq. This led to the mass murder, abduction, and enslavement of Yazidi men, women, and children. The Yazidi community continues to suffer from the long-term impacts of the genocide, including displacement and trauma. The UN is urging the international community to support efforts to hold ISIL members accountable for their crimes against the Yazidi people. This includes providing support for investigations, prosecutions, and reparations for victims.

The UN emphasizes the importance of using international legal mechanisms to prosecute those responsible for the genocide. There is a strong need for ongoing support for survivors, including psychological care, financial assistance, and resettlement programs. Increasing global awareness and education about the Yazidi genocide is crucial for preventing future atrocities.
