Gunpo Senior Club (Director Kim Jong-cheol) successfully held the ‘Cheongak’s Visiting Traditional Korean Music Performance’ for senior citizens participating in Gunpo City’s Senior Citizens’ Job Program in cooperation with Gyeonggi Arts Center on the 26th. This performance provided a special cultural experience to senior citizens through performances of various genres such as traditional Samulnori, Gyeonggi folk songs, and trot.

The Fusion Samulnori Cheongak (Director Jin Dong-gyu) team that led the performance that day presented a stage that reinterpreted traditional Samulnori with a modern sensibility, and received a warm response from the audience. In particular, the elderly people had a lively time for the first time in a long while, happily singing along to the dynamic rhythm of Samdo Samulnori and familiar trot songs.

Elderly Kim ◯◯, who watched the performance, said, “It was great to be able to enjoy traditional music that is usually difficult to access up close,” and “I was particularly impressed by the trot and folk song performances, and this opportunity allowed me to relieve stress.”

Gunpo Senior Club Director Kim Jong-cheol said, “Ahead of Chuseok, it was a time to enjoy traditional Samulnori with seniors and reflect on the beauty of our culture,” adding, “We plan to continue to provide various cultural and artistic programs for culturally underprivileged seniors in the future.”

Meanwhile, Gunpo Senior Club is supporting various jobs and social activities for a total of 2,068 seniors in 2024, and is sparing no effort to preserve their income and ensure a healthy old age.
