Various charity activities to help marginalized neighbors were carried out in succession in each region of Giheung-gu, Yongin Special City.

The Sanghwa-dong Community Security Council of Giheung-gu (Chairman Noh Seok-hwan) delivered 2.2 million won worth of rural love gift certificates to 44 low-income single-parent families in the region on the 20th. Chairman Noh Seok-hwan said, “I hope that families will share affection while preparing necessary items ahead of the Chuseok holiday.”
Since last year, the Sangha-dong Community Social Security Council has been providing gift certificates for purchasing domestic agricultural and livestock products and daily necessities to ease the financial burden of struggling neighbors.

In Yeongdeok 2-dong, Giheung-gu, Daedeoksa Temple (chief priest Tanwoo) of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism donated 50 10kg bags of rice on the 21st. Daedeoksa Temple plans to deliver this rice to 50 low-income households in the area in celebration of Baekjung, one of the five major Buddhist holidays.
“I hope this will be of some help to the underprivileged neighbors in our region,” said Venerable Tanwoo.

On the 21st, in Singal-dong, 870,000 won worth of Obok Samgyetang and coffee were delivered to 22 single-parent families with the support of the Hy Korea Yakult Gyeongwon branch. This support was made possible by donations from all former and current Hy Korea Yakult employees as part of the ‘Love Hands Extending’ project. A Gyeongwon branch official said, “We hope this will be helpful to our neighbors in need.”

In Giheung-dong, an unnamed 92-year-old senior citizen donated 600,000 won on the 20th. The senior citizen asked that the monthly salary he earned from participating in senior citizen jobs be used to help neighbors who are less fortunate than himself. A Giheung-dong official said, “We are deeply grateful for the senior citizen’s love and consideration,” and added that the donation will be used to help neighbors in need in the region.
In Sanggal-dong, on the 21st, 4 places including the Resident Autonomy Committee donated 500,000 won to help low-income families. This donation was made from the proceeds from the Love Store at the ‘Cheombeung Cheombeung’ Festival and donations from local stores. Chairman Lim Hee-taek said, “I hope this will be of some help to the residents in this heat wave.”

In Mabuk-dong, on the 19th, local restaurant Sangoeul Ori (CEO Lee Kyung-sook) donated 30 servings of Samgyetang to 30 low-income households. Sangoeul Ori has been practicing sharing by donating Cheonggukjang and Samgyetang every year since 2021. CEO Lee Kyung-sook said, “We prepared Samgyetang to provide a healthy meal in this hot weather.”
These good deeds carried out in each region of Giheung-gu, Yongin Special City are conveying the warmth of the local community and are a great help to our neighbors in need.
