Ulsan Toktok, Youth Voices Shaping Ulsan’s Future

Ulsan Toktok is a communication program designed by the Ulsan Metropolitan Government to meet directly with young people and discuss the future direction of city policies. The event aims to reflect youth perspectives gained from real field experiences and connect the activities of university volunteer groups to municipal policy development. Ulsan is strengthening its structural foundation so that youth voices can lead to substantial changes in city governance.

At 11 a.m. on the 17th, Ulsan will hold the Ulsan Toktok dialogue at the U-Star Hall on the 6th floor of the Jongha Innovation Center. The session will bring together Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom and about 20 members of the Ulsan University Student Volunteer Group.

The dialogue is scheduled to proceed with the participants sharing their on-site experiences in local communities. The youth are expected to present the challenges and concerns they have faced during volunteer activities and emphasize the need for more effective policy support to expand youth volunteer participation.

Ulsan Toktok is meaningful because it allows young people to actively voice their opinions and have them incorporated into Ulsan’s youth policies.

Participating youth are expected to outline the issues they encountered during volunteer work and propose improvements. Topics are likely to include practical concerns such as employment and career pressure, institutional support needed to ensure sustainable volunteer engagement, and creating an environment that encourages broader youth participation.

They view volunteer work as an important process that drives change in the local community and plan to request practical policy support linked to Ulsan’s youth initiatives. Ulsan Toktok is designed so that these on-the-ground perspectives can be reflected in future policy decisions.

Mayor Kim is expected to emphasize during the meeting that youth engagement is a driving force that makes Ulsan a more livable city. He plans to highlight that the passion of young people also plays a crucial role in advancing Ulsan’s vision of becoming a people-centered artificial intelligence city.

Ulsan intends to continue expanding the Ulsan Toktok series to communicate directly with young people across various fields and further incorporate youth perspectives into city governance.

This dialogue is considered an important turning point for promoting volunteer culture and strengthening youth policy. Ulsan Toktok is not merely a listening session but a developing policy platform based on youth participation.

The city will continue to expand civic and youth engagement to strengthen public-oriented governance and create an environment where young people can take a more active role in shaping Ulsan’s future.

Additional information on youth-related policies can be found through public information channels such as Korea’s Government Policy Briefing portal. Anticipation is growing as to whether Ulsan Toktok will evolve into a key communication platform that gathers more youth voices and brings meaningful change to the city’s future policy direction.
