Yeonsu-gu, Incheon (Mayor Lee Jae-ho), announced that it will host a free public lecture titled “The Brain Heart” on May 27 to help prevent dementia and overcome depression. Co-hosted by the Yeonsu Dementia Relief Center and the Yeonsu-gu Mental Health and Welfare Center, the lecture aims to provide emotional support for local residents and promote a healthy, fulfilling retirement life.

As the region enters an aging society, the lecture is designed to offer practical solutions to the rising challenges of cognitive decline and mental health issues among older adults. Divided into two parts, the sessions will be led by professionals who will share easy-to-implement strategies for managing mental and brain health.

In the first session, “Mind Health,” the Yeonsu-gu Mental Health and Welfare Center will address the symptoms and prevention of depression in old age. The session will use scenes from the TV drama Dear My Friends to help attendees relate emotionally and understand the topic, with a focus on emotional recovery for the elderly.

The second session, “Brain Health,” will feature Dr. Gahyuk from Incheon Eunhye Geriatric Hospital, who will explain the importance of early dementia diagnosis and share lifestyle habits that can prevent cognitive decline. The session will provide practical, everyday tips to help participants maintain a healthy brain.

The lecture is free and open to all local residents. Applications are being accepted for up to 400 participants on a first-come, first-served basis beginning May 12 via the Yeonsu Cultural Portal or by phone (☎032-749-8948, 070-8691-1708).

A representative from the Yeonsu-gu Public Health Center said, “We hope this lecture will help reduce vague fears about dementia and promote greater community awareness of mental health in older age. We will continue to provide programs that support residents’ emotional and cognitive well-being.”
