1 mishley מִשְׁלֵ֥י proverbs-of sh’lomoh שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה Solomon ben בֵּ֣ן son chacham חָ֭כָם wise y’sammach יְשַׂמַּח makes-glad av אָ֑ב father u-ven וּבֵ֥ן but-son k’sil כְּ֝סִ֗יל foolish tugat תּוּגַ֥ת grief-of immo אִמּֽוֹ׃ his-mother

1The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

1솔로몬의 잠언이라 지혜로운 아들은 아비로 기쁘게 하거니와 미련한 아들은 어미의 근심이니라

2 lo לֹא not yo’ilu י֭וֹעִילוּ profit otz’rot אוֹצְר֣וֹת treasures-of resha רֶ֑שַׁע wickedness u-tz’daqah וּ֝צְדָקָ֗ה but-righteousness tatzil תַּצִּ֥יל delivers mi-mavet מִמָּֽוֶת׃ from-death

2Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivers from death.

2불의의 재물은 무익하여도 의리는 죽음에서 건지느니라

3 lo לֹֽא not yar’iv יַרְעִ֣יב lets-hunger YHVH יְ֭הוָה LORD nefesh נֶ֣פֶשׁ soul-of tzaddiq צַדִּ֑יק righteous v’havvat וְהַוַּ֖ת but-desire-of r’sha’im רְשָׁעִ֣ים wicked yehdof יֶהְדֹּֽף׃ He-casts-away

3The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casts away the substance of the wicked.

3여호와께서 의인의 영혼은 주리지 않게 하시나 악인의 소욕은 물리치시느니라

4 rash רָ֗אשׁ poor oseh עֹשֶׂ֥ה becomes chaf כַף palm r’miyyah רְמִיָּ֑ה slack v’yad וְיַ֖ד but-hand charutzim חָרוּצִ֣ים diligent ta’ashir תַּעֲשִֽׁיר׃ makes-rich

4He becomes poor that deals with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

4손을 게으르게 놀리는 자는 가난하게 되고 손이 부지런한 자는 부하게 되느니라

5 oger אֹגֵ֣ר gathers ba-qayitz בַּ֭קַּיִץ in-summer ben בֵּ֣ן son maskil מַשְׂכִּ֑יל wise nirdam נִרְדָּ֥ם sleeps ba-qatzir בַּ֝קָּצִ֗יר in-harvest ben בֵּ֣ן son mevish מֵבִֽישׁ׃ causes-shame

5He that gathers in summer is a wise son: but he that sleeps in harvest is a son that causes shame.

5여름에 거두는 자는 지혜로운 아들이나 추수때에 자는 자는 부끄러움을 끼치는 아들이니라

6 b’rachot בְּ֭רָכוֹת blessings l’rosh לְרֹ֣אשׁ on-head-of tzaddiq צַדִּ֑יק righteous u-fi וּפִ֥י but-mouth-of r’sha’im רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים wicked y’chasseh יְכַסֶּ֥ה covers chamas חָמָֽס׃ violence

6Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

6의인의 머리에는 복이 임하거늘 악인의 입은 독을 머금었느니라

7 zecher זֵ֣כֶר memory-of tzaddiq צַ֭דִּיק righteous liv’rachah לִבְרָכָ֑ה for-blessing v’shem וְשֵׁ֖ם but-name-of r’sha’im רְשָׁעִ֣ים wicked yir’qav יִרְקָֽב׃ shall-rot

7The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

7의인을 기념할 때에는 칭찬하거니와 악인의 이름은 썩으리라

8 chacham חֲכַם wise lev לֵ֭ב in-heart yiqqach יִקַּ֣ח receives mitzvot מִצְוֹ֑ת commandments ve-evil וֶאֱוִ֥יל but-fool s’fatayim שְׂ֝פָתַ֗יִם of-lips yillavet יִלָּבֵֽט׃ shall-fall

8The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

8마음이 지혜로운 자는 명령을 받거니와 입이 미련한 자는 패망하리라

9 holech הוֹלֵ֣ךְ walks ba-tom בַּ֭תֹּם in-integrity yelech יֵ֣לֶךְ walks betach בֶּ֑טַח securely um’aqqesh וּמְעַקֵּ֥שׁ but-perverts d’rachav דְּ֝רָכָ֗יו his-ways yivvadea יִוָּדֵֽעַ׃ shall-be-known

9He that walks uprightly walks surely: but he that perverts his ways shall be known.

9바른 길로 행하는 자는 걸음이 평안하려니와 굽은 길로 행하는 자는 드러나리라

10 qoretz קֹ֣רֵֽץ winks ayin עַ֭יִן with-eye yitten יִתֵּ֣ן causes atzavet עַצָּ֑בֶת sorrow ve-evil וֶאֱוִ֥יל but-fool s’fatayim שְׂ֝פָתַ֗יִם of-lips yillavet יִלָּבֵֽט׃ shall-fall

10He that winks with the eye causes sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.

10눈짓하는 자는 근심을 끼치고 입이 미련한 자는 패망하느니라

11 m’qor מְק֣וֹר fountain-of chayyim חַ֭יִּים life pi פִּ֣י mouth-of tzaddiq צַדִּ֑יק righteous u-fi וּפִ֥י but-mouth-of r’sha’im רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים wicked y’chasseh יְכַסֶּ֥ה covers chamas חָמָֽס׃ violence

11The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

11의인의 입은 생명의 샘이라도 악인의 입은 독을 머금었느니라

12 sin’ah שִׂ֭נְאָה hatred t’orer תְּעוֹרֵ֣ר stirs-up m’danim מְדָנִ֑ים strifes v’al וְעַ֥ל but-over kol כָּל all p’sha’im פְּ֝שָׁעִ֗ים transgressions t’chasseh תְּכַסֶּ֥ה covers ahavah אַהֲבָֽה׃ love

12Hatred stirs up strifes: but love covers all sins.

12미움은 다툼을 일으켜도 사랑은 모든 허물을 가리우느니라

13 b’siftey בְּשִׂפְתֵ֣י in-lips-of navon נָ֭בוֹן discerning timmatze תִּמָּצֵ֣א is-found chochmah חָכְמָ֑ה wisdom v’shevet וְ֝שֵׁ֗בֶט but-rod l’gev לְגֵ֣ו for-back-of chasar חֲסַר lacking lev לֵֽב׃ understanding

13In the lips of him that has understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

13명철한 자의 입술에는 지혜가 있어도 지혜없는 자의 등을 위하여는 채찍이 있느니라

14 chachamim חֲכָמִ֥ים wise yitzp’nu יִצְפְּנוּ lay-up da’at דָ֑עַת knowledge u-fi וּפִֽי but-mouth-of evil אֱ֝וִ֗יל foolish m’chittah מְחִתָּ֥ה destruction q’rovah קְרֹבָֽה׃ near

14Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

14지혜로운 자는 지식을 간직하거니와 미련한 자의 입은 멸망에 가까우니라

15 hon ה֣וֹן wealth-of ashir עָ֭שִׁיר rich-man qir’yat קִרְיַ֣ת city-of uzzo עֻזּ֑וֹ his-strength m’chittat מְחִתַּ֖ת destruction-of dallim דַּלִּ֣ים poor reysham רֵישָֽׁם׃ their-poverty

15The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

15부자의 재물은 그의 견고한 성이요 가난한 자의 궁핍은 그의 패망이니라

16 p’ullat פְּעֻלַּ֣ת labor-of tzaddiq צַדִּ֣יק righteous l’chayyim לְחַיִּ֑ים to-life t’vu’at תְּבוּאַ֖ת fruit-of rasha רָשָׁ֣ע wicked l’chattat לְחַטָּֽאת׃ to-sin

16The labor of the righteous tends to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.

16의인의 수고는 생명에 이르고 악인의 소득은 죄에 이르느니라

17 orach אֹ֣רַח path l’chayyim לְ֭חַיִּים to-life shomer שׁוֹמֵ֣ר keeps musar מוּסָ֑ר instruction v’ozev וְעוֹזֵ֖ב but-refuses tochachat תּוֹכַ֣חַת reproof mat’eh מַתְעֶֽה׃ errs

17He is in the way of life that keeps instruction: but he that refuses reproof errs.

17훈계를 지키는 자는 생명길로 행하여도 징계를 버리는 자는 그릇 가느니라

18 m’chasseh מְכַסֶּ֣ה hides sin’ah שִׂ֭נְאָה hatred siftey שִׂפְתֵי lips-of shaqer שָׁ֑קֶר lying u-motzi וּמוֹצִ֥א and-utters dibbah דִ֝בָּ֗ה slander hu ה֣וּא he ch’sil כְסִֽיל׃ fool

18He that hides hatred with lying lips, and he that utters a slander, is a fool.

18미워함을 감추는 자는 거짓된 입술을 가진 자요 참소하는 자는 미련한 자니라

19 b’rov בְּרֹ֣ב in-multitude-of d’varim דְּ֭בָרִים words lo לֹ֣א not yechdal יֶחְדַּל ceases pasha פָּ֑שַׁע sin v’chosech וְחֹשֵׂ֖ךְ but-refrains s’fatav שְׂפָתָ֣יו his-lips maskil מַשְׂכִּֽיל׃ wise

19In the multitude of words there wants not sin: but he that refrains his lips is wise.

19말이 많으면 허물을 면키 어려우나 그 입술을 제어하는 자는 지혜가 있느니라

20 kesef כֶּ֣סֶף silver nivchar נִ֭בְחָר choice l’shon לְשׁ֣וֹן tongue-of tzaddiq צַדִּ֑יק righteous lev לֵ֖ב heart-of r’sha’im רְשָׁעִ֣ים wicked kim’at כִּמְעָֽט׃ little-worth

20The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.

20의인의 혀는 천은과 같거니와 악인의 마음은 가치가 적으니라

21 siftey שִׂפְתֵ֣י lips-of tzaddiq צַ֭דִּיק righteous yir’u יִרְע֣וּ feed rabbim רַבִּ֑ים many ve-evilim וֶֽ֝אֱוִילִ֗ים but-fools ba-chasar בַּחֲסַר for-want-of lev לֵ֥ב wisdom yamutu יָמֽוּתוּ׃ die

21The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

21의인의 입술은 여러 사람을 교육하나 미련한 자는 지혜가 없으므로 죽느니라

22 birkat בִּרְכַּ֣ת blessing-of YHVH יְ֭הוָה LORD hi הִ֣יא it ta’ashir תַעֲשִׁ֑יר makes-rich v’lo וְלֹֽא and-not yosif יוֹסִ֖ף adds etzev עֶ֣צֶב sorrow immah עִמָּֽהּ׃ with-it

22The blessing of the LORD, it makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.

22여호와께서 복을 주시므로 사람으로 부하게 하시고 근심을 겸하여 주지 아니하시느니라

23 kis’choq כִּשְׂח֣וֹק as-sport lich’sil לִ֭כְסִיל to-fool asot עֲשׂ֣וֹת to-do zimmah זִמָּ֑ה mischief v’chochmah וְ֝חָכְמָ֗ה but-wisdom l’ish לְאִ֣ישׁ to-man-of t’vunah תְּבוּנָֽה׃ understanding

23It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding has wisdom.

23미련한 자는 행악으로 낙을 삼는 것 같이 명철한 자는 지혜로 낙을 삼느니라

24 m’gorat מְגוֹרַ֣ת fear-of rasha רָ֭שָׁע wicked hi הִ֣יא it t’vo’ennu תְבוֹאֶ֑נּוּ shall-come-upon-him v’ta’avat וְתַאֲוַ֖ת but-desire-of tzaddiqim צַדִּיקִ֣ים righteous yitten יִתֵּֽן׃ shall-be-granted

24The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

24악인에게는 그의 두려워하는 것이 임하거니와 의인은 그 원하는 것이 이루어지느니라

25 ka-avor כַּעֲב֣וֹר as-passes sufah ס֭וּפָה whirlwind v’eyn וְאֵ֣ין so-is-no-more rasha רָשָׁ֑ע wicked v’tzaddiq וְ֝צַדִּ֗יק but-righteous y’sod יְס֣וֹד foundation olam עוֹלָֽם׃ everlasting

25As the whirlwind passes, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

25회리바람이 지나가면 악인은 없어져도 의인은 영원한 기초 같으니라

26 ka-chometz כַּחֹ֤מֶץ as-vinegar la-shinnayim לַשִּׁנַּ֗יִם to-teeth v’che-ashan וְכֶעָשָׁ֥ן and-as-smoke la-eynayim לָעֵינָ֑יִם to-eyes ken כֵּ֥ן so he-atzel הֶ֝עָצֵ֗ל the-sluggard l’shol’chav לְשֹׁלְחָֽיו׃ to-those-who-send-him

26As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

26게으른 자는 그 부리는 사람에게 마치 이에 초 같고 눈에 연기 같으니라

27 yir’at יִרְאַ֣ת fear-of YHVH יְ֭הוָה LORD tosif תּוֹסִ֣יף prolongs yamim יָמִ֑ים days u-sh’not וּשְׁנ֖וֹת but-years-of r’sha’im רְשָׁעִ֣ים wicked tiq’tzornah תִּקְצֹֽרְנָה׃ shall-be-shortened

27The fear of the LORD prolongs days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

27여호와를 경외하면 장수하느니라 그러나 악인의 년세는 짧아지느니라

28 tochelet תּוֹחֶ֣לֶת hope-of tzaddiqim צַדִּיקִ֣ים righteous simchah שִׂמְחָ֑ה gladness v’tiqvat וְתִקְוַ֖ת but-expectation-of r’sha’im רְשָׁעִ֣ים wicked toved תֹּאבֵֽד׃ shall-perish

28The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

28의인의 소망은 즐거움을 이루어도 악인의 소망은 끊어지느니라

29 ma’oz מָע֣וֹז strength la-tom לַ֭תֹּם to-upright derech דֶּ֣רֶךְ way-of YHVH יְהוָ֑ה LORD um’chittah וּ֝מְחִתָּ֗ה but-destruction l’fo’aley לְפֹ֣עֲלֵי to-workers-of aven אָֽוֶן׃ iniquity

29The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

29여호와의 도가 정직한 자에게는 산성이요 행악하는 자에게는 멸망이니라

30 tzaddiq צַדִּ֣יק righteous l’olam לְעוֹלָ֣ם never bal בַּל not yimmot יִמּ֑וֹט be-removed u-r’sha’im וּ֝רְשָׁעִ֗ים but-wicked lo לֹ֣א not yish’k’nu יִשְׁכְּנוּ inhabit aretz אָֽרֶץ׃ earth

30The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.

30의인은 영영히 이동되지 아니하여도 악인은 땅에 거하지 못하게 되느니라

31 pi פִּֽי mouth-of tzaddiq צַ֭דִּיק righteous yanuv יָנ֣וּב brings-forth chochmah חָכְמָ֑ה wisdom u-l’shon וּלְשׁ֥וֹן but-tongue tahpuchot תַּ֝הְפֻּכ֗וֹת perverse tikaret תִּכָּרֵֽת׃ shall-be-cut-out

31The mouth of the just brings forth wisdom: but the perverse tongue shall be cut out.

31의인의 입은 지혜를 내어도 패역한 혀는 베임을 당할 것이니라

32 siftey שִׂפְתֵ֣י lips-of tzaddiq צַ֭דִּיק righteous yed’un יֵדְע֣וּן know ratzon רָצ֑וֹן acceptable u-fi וּפִ֥י but-mouth-of r’sha’im רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים wicked tahpuchot תַּהְפֻּכֽוֹת׃ perverseness

32The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaks perverseness.

32의인의 입술은 기쁘게 할 것을 알거늘 악인의 입은 패역을 말하느니라
