Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will operate a customized dietary education program called ‘Oroti’ to support pregnant women’s healthy childbirth and fetal growth.

This program was designed to help pregnant women maintain a proper diet and promote healthy fetal development, and will be held three times in total at the ‘Shared Kitchen’ in Yeongdeungpo-dong Community Center until September.

Currently, our country is experiencing a serious decline in birth rate and aging population, and the total fertility rate in the first quarter of this year recorded the lowest level ever at 0.76. In this situation, the health of pregnant women and fetuses is more important than ever. This is because a balanced diet during pregnancy is directly related to not only the health of the pregnant woman but also the development of the fetus.

Yeongdeungpo-gu is providing systematic dietary education by pregnancy stage in cooperation with the Dietary Life Education Network. Through this, the goal is to improve the nutritional status of pregnant women, foster the ability to manage proper diet, and help the fetus grow healthily. Furthermore, it supports the formation of children’s future eating habits in a positive way.

The main contents of the program are ▲ Nutrients and diet that must be taken by each week of pregnancy ▲ The first step in our child’s diet ▲ Food for mothers and babies ▲ How pregnant women consume essential nutrients, etc. In addition, each class includes time to make two prenatal dishes. Pregnant women can make dishes such as seasonal vegetable boiled meat wrap, beef five-colored roll rice bowl, five-colored vegetable shabu-shabu, and chicken Vietnamese spring roll without artificial seasonings using eco-friendly agricultural products, and feel the daily vitality and psychological stability for a healthy birth.

Participation is open to pregnant women registered as residents of Yeongdeungpo-gu. They can apply by visiting the maternal and child health center at the public health center or by phone.

In addition, Yeongdeungpo-gu is operating various customized post-natal care programs to create a healthy childbirth and childrearing-friendly environment, such as ▲Seoul Baby Health First Steps ▲Maternal and Newborn Health Care ▲Visiting Happy Breastfeeding.

Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, “Yeongdeungpo-gu will be the strongest supporter of pregnant women from pregnancy to childbirth and childrearing,” and added, “We will do our best to make Yeongdeungpo-gu a true ‘city good for raising children.’”
