Seongnam City Jungwon-gu announced that it will strengthen crackdowns on illegal dumping of trash on the 4th and 9th of every month, the days when the Moran Folk 5-day Market is held. This crackdown will be conducted until September 24, and is aimed at providing a pleasant environment for citizens visiting the market.

Moran Folk 5-day Market is held in a 22,575㎡ public parking lot in the Yeosu Public Housing District on Duncheon-daero, Jungwon-gu, Seongnam-si. It is the largest 5-day market in the country, with up to 50,000 visitors on weekdays and 100,000 on holidays. In such large-scale markets, illegal dumping of waste frequently occurs, leading to environmental problems, so Seongnam-si decided to take action to resolve the problem through this crackdown.

This crackdown will involve an illegal dumping crackdown team consisting of 12 people, including Jungwon-gu officials. They will focus on inspecting places where trash is habitually dumped on market days and will also conduct promotional activities to merchants on how to separate and dispose of trash.

In particular, if illegal dumping of waste is detected, a fine of 50,000 to 200,000 won will be imposed. Through this, efforts to reduce illegal dumping and improve the market environment will continue. In addition, we plan to actively receive reports from residents to minimize inconvenience caused by illegal dumping of waste. Residents can report cases of illegal dumping through the dedicated reporting line installed at the Jungwon-gu Office in Seongnam City (☎ 031-729-6321~4).

A Seongnam City official said, “Moran Folk 5-day Market is the largest 5-day market in the country, and as many visitors come, it is important to maintain a clean and pleasant environment,” adding, “We will strengthen crackdowns to reduce illegal dumping of trash, and we ask for cooperation from merchants and citizens.”

Through this crackdown, Seongnam City is expected to contribute to improving the environment of Moran Folk 5-day Market as well as increasing the satisfaction of residents. Seongnam City plans to continue crackdowns and publicize the method of separate disposal in the future.
