Uijeongbu City (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) is actively promoting the ‘Aging Construction Equipment Engine Replacement Support Project’ to reduce air pollutants such as fine dust and nitrogen oxides. This project is being implemented for the purpose of contributing to improving air quality by replacing the engines of old construction equipment.

The support target is non-road construction machinery registered in Uijeongbu City that is subject to emission regulations (Tier-1 or lower) prior to 2004, including forklifts, excavators, loaders, and diggers (rollers). If the engine output is 75 kW or more but less than 130 kW, machinery manufactured prior to 2005 is eligible for support, and if it is less than 75 kW, forklifts and excavators manufactured prior to 2006 are eligible for support.

About 6 construction machines can be supported through this project, and the engine replacement cost will be fully supported, from 9.78 million won to a maximum of 19.797 million won depending on the vehicle type. However, the engine must not have been modified to a low-emission engine or installed with an emission reduction device through government support, and it must be operated for at least 2 years after replacement.

Applications for support will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget runs out. Applications can be made online through the Automobile Emissions Integrated Computer System (www.mecar.or.kr) or by visiting the city’s Climate and Energy Division in person. For more information, please visit the city hall website’s public notice section.

Kim Bo-kyung, head of the Climate and Energy Division, said, “This project to replace the engines of old construction equipment with high levels of ultrafine dust emissions with new engines will greatly contribute to creating a pleasant air environment,” and added, “I ask for the interest and active participation of many citizens.”
