Lee Byung-sam compare l\u2019\u00e9criture \u00e0 un journal intime. Chaque trait lui permet de revenir sur une journ\u00e9e, un mois ou une ann\u00e9e, mais aussi de r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir \u00e0 la vie qu\u2019il souhaite construire.<\/p>\n

L\u2019artiste raconte que la rencontre avec le pinceau et le hangeul a marqu\u00e9 un tournant dans une p\u00e9riode o\u00f9 il se sentait \u00e9puis\u00e9. Depuis, l\u2019\u00e9criture l\u2019aide \u00e0 traverser les \u00e9preuves et reste une source de force dans son travail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Des lettres \u00e0 regarder autant qu\u2019\u00e0 lire<\/h2>\n

Dans ses \u0153uvres, les caract\u00e8res ne forment pas n\u00e9cessairement des phrases \u00e0 d\u00e9chiffrer. Ils deviennent des \u00e9l\u00e9ments plastiques faits de points, de lignes et de surfaces. Le mouvement du pinceau, la pression exerc\u00e9e et le rythme des gestes conservent la trace des \u00e9motions ressenties pendant la cr\u00e9ation.<\/p>\n

Lee Byung-sam invite ainsi chaque visiteur \u00e0 regarder ces traces comme une image et \u00e0 y trouver sa propre \u00e9motion.<\/p>\n

Avant de choisir une couleur ou la forme d\u2019une lettre, l\u2019artiste pense au souvenir qu\u2019il veut exprimer. Certaines exp\u00e9riences demeurent vives ; d\u2019autres s\u2019estompent. Il traduit ces diff\u00e9rences en superposant les couleurs et les caract\u00e8res.<\/p>\n

Pour lui, la diversit\u00e9 des formes du hangeul rappelle celle des \u00eatres humains. Chaque caract\u00e8re poss\u00e8de son \u00e9quilibre, sa force, sa douceur et ses espaces.
