Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced on the 23rd that it plans to build a public parking lot that can accommodate a total of 245 vehicles in cooperation with Samsung Electronics to resolve the serious parking shortage in the Seonong-dong area of Giheung-gu. This is related to the expansion project of the Giheung Campus Future Research Complex, which Samsung Electronics is investing 20 trillion won in and is aiming for completion in 2026. Currently, an average of 6,000 construction workers are being mobilized per day for this construction, which is causing indiscriminate parking in nearby housing complexes and commercial areas, increasing the inconvenience to residents.

Accordingly, Yongin City secured the parking lot site, and Samsung Electronics agreed to bear the construction costs necessary for building the parking lot, as well as the costs of installing auxiliary facilities such as parking lot guide signs and boundary fences. The public parking lot to be built this time will consist of 200 spaces with an area of 3,847㎡ at 427 Nongseo-dong and 45 spaces with an area of 1,329㎡ at 744 Seocheon-dong.

Yongin City is already operating a public parking lot with 263 spaces by leasing 7,300㎡ of land owned by Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) at 427 Nongseo-dong free of charge. Through this agreement, by signing an amended contract with LH to expand the land area and creating an additional 200-space parking lot with Samsung Electronics, a total of 463 vehicles will be able to park in this area.

Yongin City and Samsung Electronics will sign a written agreement within this month and complete the construction of the public parking lot by October. A Yongin City official said, “We worked with Samsung Electronics to alleviate inconveniences for citizens by deploying parking guidance personnel, but we decided to build a public parking lot to provide a fundamental alternative for parking convenience,” adding, “We will cooperate with relevant organizations to quickly proceed with administrative procedures to complete the parking lot as soon as possible.”
