Uijeongbu City Library (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) will be running the ‘Reading Relay Season 2 of the Book of the Year’ from September to November. This program is a reading movement in which families, friends, and neighbors read the book of the year in turn and share their thoughts, and was planned to further expand the reading culture in Uijeongbu City.

Uijeongbu City has selected a total of 24 ‘Books of the Year’ from 2011 to last year. 13 books were selected in the adult category and 11 books were selected in the children and youth category, contributing to the creation of a social reading culture where the local community reads, communicates, and sympathizes together. Following the successful conclusion of the reading relay season 1 in July of this year, this season 2 will reread the books of the year from the past and emphasize the joy of ‘reading a book together’ and the value of rereading.

To participate in the reading relay, form a team of three people (family, friends, colleagues, etc.), and then choose one book of the year that you want to read and a library to receive the book. The team representative completes the application through the Uijeongbu Information Library website, then visits the library to borrow the book. After that, team members read the books in a set order, complete the reading participation challenge, and certify the process on the Uijeongbu Information Library website’s ‘Book of the Year Reading Relay Bulletin Board’. The team that completes the race will receive special goods prepared by the Uijeongbu City Library.

In addition to this season 2 program, the city library is also planning a program called ‘Reading the Book of the Year in English’ where it will read the books of the year from previous years in English, raising citizens’ expectations.

Applications for the reading relay can be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis from 10:00 AM on August 26 at the Uijeongbu Information Library website (www.uilib.go.kr). For more information, please refer to the library website or contact the person in charge (031-828-8695).
