Sang Hyun Library Local Children's Center 'Reading with the Library' Program Completed

Yongin Special City Sang-Hyeon Library announced on the 28th that it successfully completed the ‘Reading with the Library in 2024’ program, which was held 15 times from May for 11 children from the Gwanggyo Village Community Children’s Center. This program was designed to help children from information-vulnerable classes learn the joy of reading and develop reading habits.

The Sang-Hyeon Library in Yongin Special City has been conducting the ‘Reading with the Library in 2024’ program 15 times since May of this year for 11 children from the Gwanggyo Village Community Children’s Center. This program was made possible because the Sang-Hyeon Library was selected for a public contest hosted by the National Library for Children and Young Adults and organized by the Korea Library Culture Promotion Institute. This is the third consecutive year that the Sang-Hyeon Library has been selected for this contest.

The main purpose of this program is to spread the importance and joy of reading to children from information-vulnerable groups. The program consists of meetings with authors, various post-reading activities, writing, and reading discussions, designed to help children naturally develop an interest in reading.

In particular, the meeting time with children’s author Song Hyun-ji, author of ‘The One Who Rules Poop’, was very popular with the children. Author Song sang fun poems with the children and conducted creative activities, and then stimulated the children’s creativity through post-reading activities. One child who participated in the program said, “At first, I thought the book reading class would be boring, but I had a great time reading books and doing various activities,” and “The poem class was especially impressive.”

An official from the Sang Hyun Library said, “It was very rewarding to see the children who participated in this program become interested in reading and develop reading habits,” and added, “We will continue to promote programs like this in the future so that we can spread the joy of reading to more children.”

Through this program, Sang Hyun Library once again emphasized the role of libraries in the community by providing children from information-vulnerable classes with the opportunity to develop knowledge and creativity through reading.
