The Nam June Paik Art Center will host a community film screening as part of the 7th Manae Village Film Festival from September 6 to September 8, 2024. The screening will feature the documentary <Poem on the Land> and <Nam June Paik: The Moon is the Oldest TV> for free, and various programs and events with local residents will be planned.

The Nam June Paik Art Center of the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation will participate as a community screening room for the 7th Manae Village Film Festival, and will screen two documentaries for free at the Random Access Hall on the first floor of the art center located in Giheung-gu, Yongin-si from September 6 to September 8. This film festival is planned and carried out through the direct participation of local residents, and this year in particular, the screening room has been expanded to the entire Yongin-si area to allow more citizens to participate.
On the first day, Friday, September 6th, at 3:30 PM, 50 students from Singal High School will be invited to watch the documentary <Poem on the Land>, which contains the life and nature of the first-generation landscape architect in Korea, Jeong Yeong-seon. The film was directed by Jeong Da-un and has a running time of 113 minutes. After the screening, there will be a curator talk with the planner of the special exhibition <Jeong Yeong-seon: For All That Breathe on This Land> held at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, to help viewers gain a deeper understanding of the film.
On Sunday, September 8th at 2 PM, the documentary <Nam June Paik: The Moon is the Oldest TV>, which covers the life of Nam June Paik, a pioneer of 20th-century digital art, will be screened. This work was directed by Amanda Kim, who will be released in 2023, and actor Steven Yeun participated in the production and narration. Before the screening, a curator from the Nam June Paik Art Center will provide a brief explanation of Nam June Paik’s life and art.
The Nam June Paik Art Center also prepared various events for moviegoers during the film festival. A 10% discount on food and beverages will be offered at the café in the art center, and a raffle event will be held where the center’s cultural products, such as colorful bags and magnets, will be given away as prizes. Reservations for movie viewing can be made through the official online reservation form for the film festival, and up to eight films can be reserved per person. All screenings are free of charge.
Through this community screening, the Nam June Paik Art Center plans to strengthen cooperation with the local community and continue to discover various cooperative projects. The Nam June Paik Art Center currently preserves and manages 2,755 Nam June Paik archive materials, and operates the online archive service ‘Nam June Paik’s Video Library’ along with free video screenings in the random access hall on the first floor.
Park Nam-hee, director of the Nam June Paik Art Center, said, “The film festival community screening is the first attempt to communicate and coexist with the local ecosystem,” and added, “I hope that local residents will get to know the Nam June Paik Art Center better through this film festival.”
