The ‘Korea Solar League’ is a new renewable energy development competition league where 17 metropolitan and 226 basic autonomous bodies, public institutions, and private organizations across the country participate to compete in renewable energy supply performance. The newly established local government policy performance category this year evaluates local governments that have contributed to energy transition and renewable energy supply and increased citizen participation, and Siheung City was selected as the best local government.

Siheung City received this award in recognition of its response to the climate change crisis and active encouragement of citizen participation in energy transition through ▲promoting 100% use of renewable energy (RE100) in industrial complexes ▲tripling the number of solar power installations by 2023 ▲installing the 9th citizen solar power plant in a bus garage ▲reflecting the cooperative structure ordinance between the city and citizen cooperatives ▲various energy education centered around Siheung Eco Center.

Mayor Lim Byeong-taek of Siheung City said, “I am delighted that Siheung City’s preparations and achievements in renewable energy projects have been recognized through this award,” and added, “We will continue to further expand the supply of renewable energy and pursue a carbon-neutral policy that citizens can participate in and feel.”
