Ongjin County (Governor Moon Kyung-bok) announced that the ‘Shipri for you Chilling Night’ festival held at Siplipo Beach in Yeongheungdo on August 10th ended successfully. This festival was held to commemorate the opening of the Siplipo water park, and about 500 local residents and tourists attended to create summer night memories.
The festival kicked off with a performance by the Yeongheungdo choir group ‘Yeogochangsaeng’. The main programs included emotional busking, yoga and Nordic walking, a food market and specialty product sales, and a lucky draw. A total of four teams, ‘Yeogochangsaeng’, ‘Ppeun Nori’, ‘Go Yoon-seul’, and ‘Tune Around’, appeared in the busking performances. Of these, ‘Yeogochangsaeng’ and ‘Ppeun Nori’ are from Yeongheungdo, and received a hot response for their performances that highlighted the local characteristics.
At the same time, healing yoga and Nordic walking programs were held for vacationers in the pine forest and on the beach. About 70 participants were recruited through advance registration for this program, providing an opportunity to enjoy a healthy vacation in nature.
Choi Eun-sik, the head of the Specialization Committee of the Siplipo English Association, said, “This festival is an event planned and operated directly by the residents, and I hope that Siplipo Beach will be remembered as a place where people can relax in all four seasons.”
Siplipo Beach is a tourist destination with excellent accessibility, which can be reached by car from the Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi metropolitan areas in about 2 and a half hours. It has various convenient facilities such as a 150-year-old pine forest, a mudflat experience center, and a camping site. Siplipo English Association plans to apply for the Workation (chilling center) project as a specialized project of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety this year to transform into a four-season tourist destination.
