Yongin Special City announced on the 15th that it will begin emergency construction on 20 rivers including Cheongmicheon that were damaged by heavy rain on July 18th, and plans to complete restoration within the year. The restoration target includes 10 local rivers and 10 small rivers, and the Cheongmicheon, Wanjangcheon, and Daedaecheon that were severely damaged are the main targets.

The city is quickly proceeding with the detailed design through a consultant with a water resource license in the city, and has secured a total project cost of KRW 1.32925 billion by organizing a pre-establishment budget of KRW 851.45 million from the provincial government and KRW 477.8 million from the city. Based on this, the city is planning to quickly push forward with emergency construction and complete all restoration work within this year.

The areas targeted for restoration include Cheongmicheon and Wanjangcheon, which require embankment repairs in the area of 974-1 Gajaewol-ri, Daedaecheon, where part of the bicycle path was damaged, and Geumhakcheon, Jeongjicheon, and Danghacheon. These areas suffered serious damage due to heavy rain, such as the loss of embankments and damage to the trail deck.

The city responded quickly by applying for national road expenses and allocating its own budget immediately after the damage occurred, and plans to expedite the design and construction orders to complete all restoration work before winter. This rapid response is expected to be of great help in accelerating the return to daily life of residents in the affected areas.

Yongin Special City has been focusing on preventive measures such as dredging of rivers and sewers and reinforcement of water barriers since before the rainy season this year, and as a result, some areas such as Baekam-myeon, Cheoin-gu were able to minimize damage despite heavier rain than two years ago.

Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin Special City said, “In the past, there were many cases where flood recovery was delayed and continued until the following year’s rainy season, but now we will improve these problems and complete recovery quickly,” and “We will carry out administration with a sense of urgency so that citizens can enjoy their daily lives safely as soon as possible.”
