It is said that the name of Jeonong-dong originated from “ Jeonnong -ri (典農里) “ because there was a land called Jeokjeon (籍田) where the king personally farmed since the early Joseon Dynasty (also known as Jeonong (典農) , and at the time it was called Dongjeokjeon (東籍田) ) .

During the Joseon Dynasty , there were seven natural villages in this area: Saetmal , also known as Ganchon (間村), Hwalteomal, also known as Gungchon (弓村) , Changbangjae (昌防嶺) , Changmaeul , also known as Changchon (倉村) , Teotgol , also known as Gigok (基谷), Geonaemal, also known as Wolchon (越村) , and Seongneomeomal , also known as Seongoedong (城外洞) . In Jeonong 4 – dong , there are local shrines such as Seonangdang (神堂) and Bugundang (府君堂) .
Currently , in Jeonong-dong, there is Cheongnyangni Station, the gateway to railway transportation in the eastern part of Seoul , and at the foot of Baebongsan Mountain are Seoul City University and Baebongsan Neighborhood Park .
