The name of Yongdu-dong, which borders Sinseoldong around Wangsan-ro (旺山路) and Hajeong-ro (夏亭路) , comes from the fact that in the past, the topography of the mountain behind the village resembled a ‘dragon ‘s head ‘ , so it was called ‘ Yongmeori ‘ or ‘ Yongduri (龍頭里) ‘ .

In the past, this area was famous for its “ good-tasting water “ because streams from Hongneungcheon , Seongbukcheon , and Jeongneungcheon flowed through it . The “ Hongneungnae Laundry Place “ ( former Oscar Theater site ) and “ Jeongneungnae Laundry Place “ ( now next to Cheongnyangni Midopa Department Store ) that formed along the streams were said to have been famous laundromats .

The taste of the well from the “ Chanwoomulteo “ located at the site of the Namseong Industrial Complex on Wangsan-ro was so cold that it made your teeth chatter and so sweet that not only travelers entering the city but also people within the city walls would drink this water after leaving Dongdaemun .

The new Dongdaemun-gu Office building is located at 39 Yongdu-dong, the former site of the Dongmajang Bus Terminal , the Oriental Medicine Exhibition Hall and Cultural Center is located at 64 Yongdu-dong , and the Yongdu-dong Green Park is scheduled to be built across from the new Dongdaemun-gu Office building in the area of 34 Yongdu -dong .
