Changnyeong County (Governor Seong Nak-in) announced that it successfully completed the 2024 Ulchi Exercise provincial unit practical training with the participation of approximately 300 people, including 11 organizations and groups and observers, at the Bukyeongnam Substation on the 21st.
This actual training was conducted as part of the Ulchi exercise that was carried out nationwide from the 19th to the 22nd, and Changnyeong-gun was selected as the representative actual training institution in Gyeongsangnam-do.
The main objectives of the training were to protect key national facilities essential for conducting a total national war, improve the ability to deal with new types of attacks such as drones, and strengthen defensive functions.
In addition, we focused on minimizing material and human damage and strengthening crisis management capabilities by establishing a cooperative system among the public, private, military, police, and fire departments.
Various related organizations, including Changnyeong County, the 39th Division, Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency, Gyeongnam Fire Department, National Intelligence Service branch, and Korea Electric Power Corporation Gyeongnam Headquarters, participated in the training, and around 30 pieces of equipment, including fire helicopters, armored vehicles, military and police operation vehicles, and drones, were mobilized.
Assuming that enemy special forces had infiltrated the Beijing South Substation, a key national facility, the training was conducted as a comprehensive exercise for responding to terrorism, including joint military and police initial response, joint rescue and fire suppression by relevant organizations, and emergency restoration of the facility.
Governor Park Wan-soo said in his post-training commentary, “I hope that this actual Ulchi exercise has verified the effectiveness of the cooperative system and manual among related organizations such as the civilian, government, military, police, and fire departments in the event of a terrorist attack at a key national facility,” and added, “We will further strengthen our response capabilities so that we can respond quickly to the changing security environment and protect the lives and property of our citizens.”
Governor Seong Nak-in emphasized, “This Ulchi exercise, a practical training exercise, was an important opportunity to establish a close cooperative system between related organizations in the event of a terrorist attack and to cultivate the ability to handle the situation.”
