Siheung City (Mayor Lim Byeong-taek) held the ’21st University and City Forum’ on the 21st at Seoul National University Siheung Campus with the theme of ‘What is the strategy for the mutually beneficial cooperation between universities and cities through the Regional Innovation-centered University Support (RISE) project and the Glocal project?’
This forum was organized to discuss the ‘Regional Innovation-Oriented University Support (RISE)’ project and the ‘Global University 30 Project’ being promoted by the Ministry of Education to promote joint growth between universities and local communities in response to changes in population and industrial structures due to the rapid decline in the school-age population.
The forum discussed the reorganization of the Ministry of Education’s university financial support business in conjunction with regional development. The main presentation topics were ‘University and regional innovation plans for regional-industry-academia cooperation’ and ‘University and regional cooperation strategies through support projects for regional innovation-centered university support (RISE) system.’
In addition, the direction of regional-university innovation and cooperation models were analyzed through cases of overseas cooperation districts, and the direction of establishing a basic plan for ‘Regional Innovation-Centered University Support (RISE)’ based on university-region collaboration was discussed.
In the discussion held in the form of a symposium that followed, the policy implications and issues of the Regional Innovation-Oriented University Support (RISE) project were discussed in depth, and ways for cooperation between local governments to promote the Regional Innovation-Oriented University Support (RISE) project at universities in their jurisdictions were explored.
Mayor Lim Byeong-taek of Siheung City said, “We will actively work for the innovative development of regions and universities, such as fostering future growth industries, fostering regional innovation cooperation zones, and establishing cooperative relationships between local governments, industry, and academia through customized support for universities in each region led by local governments.”
Meanwhile, the 2nd forum will be held on September 11th at Seoul National University Siheung Campus under the theme of ‘Meeting the Future of Artificial Intelligence Convergence (AI+X)’. This forum will feature in-depth discussions on the advancement of artificial intelligence convergence (AI+X) technology and how it will change cities and universities.
