Mayor Kim Dong-geun of Uijeongbu City held a ‘Field Mayor’s Office’ at the Ganeung-dong Community Center on August 23rd and had a time to communicate with citizens. The Field Mayor’s Office, which began in May of this year, has been operating by visiting community centers in each neighborhood in Uijeongbu City, and this visit to Ganeung-dong was the thirteenth in a row.
The on-site market office provided citizens with an opportunity to directly talk to the mayor about various issues. The main issues discussed that day included ▲maintaining sidewalk blocks for pedestrian safety ▲proposing an extension of the light rail ▲establishing a new suburban station ▲holding a mayoral sports competition ▲improving pipelines in flooded areas, etc.
A citizen said at the mayor’s office, “I have filed complaints to the relevant departments several times, but I came to see you out of frustration because the issue was not resolved,” and requested, “The legal aspect is important, but I hope you can think of a realistic solution together.”
Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “It is difficult to properly understand what citizens find inconvenient without going out to the site,” and emphasized, “It is important to approach even somewhat difficult civil complaints from a new perspective and think of solutions.” He also promised, “We will carefully review the civil complaints received and make improvements in stages to provide a better environment for citizens.”
This on-site market office has become an important opportunity to understand more deeply the inconveniences experienced by citizens of Uijeongbu through direct communication with them and to strengthen the city’s efforts to improve them.
