Today, we renew the meaning of liberation and remember the new beginning of the Republic of Korea.

On Liberation Day, we look back on a moment in history that sang of hope.

Liberation Day is the day on August 15, 1945, when the Republic of Korea achieved independence from Japanese imperialism. The word “liberation” means “regaining light,” and this day symbolizes the historical moment when our people regained their freedom and sovereignty that they had lost during long oppression. The 35 years of Japanese colonial rule left deep scars and pain on our people, but even in that time, there were endless struggles and sacrifices toward independence. Thanks to the dedication and patriotism of countless independence activists, we can enjoy the freedom and peace we have today.

Liberation Day is not just a day to commemorate the independence of the past, but also an important day to think about the direction and future that the Republic of Korea should take today. Every year on August 15, various commemorative events are held all over the country to honor the noble spirit of sacrifice of patriotic martyrs. It is a time to raise the Taegeukgi and express national pride, and for all the people to become one and reflect on the value of independence.

Liberation Day reminds us of the importance of our independence and the importance of our continued efforts for peace and prosperity. In order to pass on a free and prosperous Republic of Korea to our descendants, we must not forget the meaning of liberation and continue its spirit today.
