Jung-gu, Incheon Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Jeong-heon) announced on the 26th that it is operating the ‘100-Year-Old Tooth Guardian’ project for the elderly who are vulnerable to oral health management, and is providing oral examination services by directly visiting senior centers and nursing homes.
This project is hosted by Jung-gu Public Health Center and will run from July to November. Dentists from the public health center will visit senior centers in person to provide the elderly with services such as ▲oral checkups and consultations, ▲education on proper brushing techniques, ▲education on how to use fluoride mouthwash and how to clean dentures, and ▲massage to improve dry mouth.
In addition, oral care method education will be provided to nursing homes and day and night care centers where oral care services are difficult to access. This education will provide an opportunity for not only the elderly but also nursing caregivers to participate and share the importance of oral health management and learn practical management methods.
Jung Han-sook, the head of Jung-gu Public Health Center, said, “The oral health of the elderly is closely related to dementia and chronic diseases, so it is an important factor in improving their quality of life,” and added, “We will do our best to manage oral health so that the elderly in Jung-gu can enjoy a healthy old age.”
This ‘mobile oral checkup’ service is expected to play a major role in supporting a healthy life in old age by systematically managing the oral health of the elderly.
