Yongin Special City announced on the 27th that on the 26th, Seongbok Library and the Korea International School (KIS) Pangyo Campus student volunteer group ‘Balloon Tas’ donated 2 million won in operating profits from the ‘English Camp Become a Global Citizen Project’ to low-income families in the region through the Gyeonggi Community Chest of Korea.

Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced on the 27th that Seongbok Library and the Korean Foreign School (KIS) Pangyo Campus student volunteer group ‘Balloon Tas’ donated 2 million won in operating profits for the ‘English Camp Becoming a Global Citizen Project’. This donation will be delivered to low-income families in the Yongin area through the Gyeonggi Community Chest of Korea.

Seongbok Library is a multilingual library, and has been operating the ‘English Camp Becoming a Global Citizen Project’ since April of this year. In this program, students from the Korean Foreign School volunteer group ‘Balloon Tas’ donate their talents to teach local elementary school students how to read English books and do follow-up activities, providing opportunities for English education.

The English camp is divided into two classes for elementary school students, lower and upper grades, and is held once every weekend. Applications for classes are accepted for a new topic every month, and the August program began accepting applications on a first-come, first-served basis on the Seongbok Library website on the 26th. This August 31, a program on the topic of ‘African child labor exploitation and children’s rights’ will be held in the multipurpose room on the first basement floor of the library.

The program will continue until December, and all future proceeds will be donated. A Seongbok Library official said, “We feel a great sense of accomplishment in being able to provide a program that is beneficial to citizens while also giving back to society with the proceeds,” and “We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the ‘Balloon Tas’ students who participated in the talent donation program.”
