Gimpo City, Yangcheon-gu, and Goyang Special City sign an ice sports cooperation agreement Strengthening the metropolitan ice belt by attracting an international skating rink


On the 26th, Gimpo City (Mayor Kim Byeong-su) signed a mutual cooperation agreement for the development of ice sports with Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (Head of District Lee Ki-jae) and Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) at Gimpo Art Village, thereby leading cooperation in the western part of the metropolitan area for the ‘Attraction of Gimpo International Skating Rink’.

With this agreement, Gimpo City has established a foundation for hosting various ice skating competitions in conjunction with Mokdong Ice Rink in Yangcheon-gu and Goyang Eoullim Nuri Stadium in Goyang Special City when hosting an international skating rink. This cooperation is expected to be an important opportunity to promote the growth of the ice skating sports industry in Korea beyond revitalizing the local economy.

The signing ceremony was attended by Gimpo Mayor Kim Byeong-soo, Yangcheon-gu Mayor Lee Ki-jae, and Goyang Special City Education and Culture Bureau Director Kim Jong-gu, and the three local governments discussed ways to cooperate to utilize each other’s resources to promote regional development and establish themselves as a hub for ice sports in Korea.

The main contents of the agreement included cooperation in building ice sports infrastructure, joint use of regional resources, network and information sharing, and participation in government and institutional competitions in the ice sports field.

At the signing ceremony, Gimpo Mayor Kim Byung-soo said, “I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Yangcheon-gu and Goyang Special City for their great decision,” and added, “Through this agreement, Gimpo City has come one step closer to hosting an international skating rink, and I expect that together with Yangcheon-gu and Goyang Special City, it will play an important role in the development of ice sports in Korea.”

This agreement is expected to be an important turning point for the development of ice sports and attracting international skating rinks, especially in the western part of the metropolitan area.
