Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced on the 27th that it will conduct intensive inspections of various risk factors such as traffic safety, hazardous environments, food safety, and illegal advertisements in 105 elementary school protection zones in the city from the 26th to the end of September. This inspection is a measure that prioritizes the safety of students as the school season begins, and a joint inspection team was formed with the Office of Education, police stations, and private organizations.

The joint inspection team conducts inspections in various areas, including child protection zones under the Road Traffic Act, educational environment protection zones under the Education Environment Act, and food safety protection zones under the Children’s Dietary Lifestyle Act. The main inspection targets are subdivided into traffic safety, hazardous environment, food safety, and illegal advertisements.

In the area of traffic safety, the main focus is on understanding the actual conditions of school routes, cracking down on illegal parking and stopping, and managing the safety of school vehicles. In the area of hazardous environments, the inspection targets include cracking down on illegal business facilities and hazardous facilities in educational environment protection zones, and violations of the Youth Protection Act. In addition, in the area of food safety, food poisoning prevention and food hygiene management are thoroughly checked, and in the area of illegal advertisements, old and illegal advertisements are repaired.

In order to increase the effectiveness of this inspection, the city plans to assign specialized personnel to inspection teams by field and conduct intensive on-site inspections during school commuting hours. In particular, for areas where new policies or system improvements are needed, the city plans to closely examine the on-site implementation status and immediately supplement any shortcomings.

In addition, during the inspection period, the city plans to actively carry out online and offline campaigns in cooperation between the public and private sectors, including the ‘Children First Traffic Safety Campaign,’ the safety culture movement, and Safety Inspection Day.

City officials emphasized, “We will do our best to create a safe school environment around elementary schools and block various hazardous factors in advance so that students can have a safe and healthy school life.”
