Weeding and facility maintenance in progress nationwide ahead of Chuseok

Yongin Special City announced that in order to provide a safe and pleasant environment for citizens and visitors heading home for the Chuseok holiday, it will carry out weeding work throughout the city, inspect streetlights and security lights, and repair potholes. This repair work will be concentrated in three districts: Cheoin, Giheung, and Suji.

Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced on the 27th that in preparation for the Chuseok holiday, it will carry out various facility maintenance activities, including weeding, streetlight and security light inspections, and pothole maintenance throughout the city. This is a measure to provide a safe and pleasant environment for citizens and visitors, and will be concentrated in three districts: Cheoin-gu, Giheung-gu, and Suji-gu.

Each district, including Cheoin-gu, is planning to weed major roadsides, riverside trails, green spaces, and public spaces so that citizens and visitors can enjoy a clean and pleasant environment. Cheoin-gu will conduct weeding work on 278km sections of major roadsides, including the access roads to 14 public and public cemeteries, provincial roads, and riverside trails, such as Gyeongancheon and Geumhakcheon, ahead of the Chuseok holiday in September. In addition, pest control will be carried out on green spaces, street trees, and rest areas.

Giheung-gu will carry out weeding work on 28 major roads including Shinsuro, 21 small and local rivers, and green spaces and rest areas twice in September and November. They will use the Living Administration Talk to quickly address residents’ inconveniences, and they plan to regularly inspect and maintain places that citizens frequently visit.

Suji-gu will carry out weeding work at 7 major roadside locations including Domachi-ro, 10 riverside locations including Tancheon, and 66 landscape green areas in the district office and 11 townships before the holiday. Weeding work will be concentrated in roadsides and riverside walking paths with a lot of floating population.

Each district is also preparing for an increase in the floating population during the holiday period by improving roads and transportation facilities. Cheoin-gu completed the water cleaning of tunnels and bridge structures, including the Yeokbuk Tunnel and overpass canopy, in August, and plans to install additional streetlights and security lights in sections of Pogok-eup and Mohyeon-eup where streetlights are not installed.

Giheung-gu plans to resurface aging and damaged sections of 12 major roads (total 1.8km) and intensively repair potholes. With the localized heavy rain and heat waves in the summer causing a sharp increase in potholes, Giheung-gu recorded an increase of about 3 times in the number of emergency repairs from an average of 95 to 285 per month. Accordingly, a wide range of repairs will be carried out to prevent potholes in order to reduce the risk of traffic accidents.

Suji-gu is improving traffic safety facilities and school routes for the safety of pedestrians, especially children. Starting in August, a budget of 150 million won was invested to mark the start and end points on the road surfaces of 59 child protection zones, including Gogi Elementary School, and the improvement work on the school routes of Sang-hyeon Elementary School, Dae-il Elementary School, and Hanbit Elementary School is scheduled to be completed by early September. In addition, a plan is in place to spend 100 million won to install remote inspection devices utilizing IoT (Internet of Things) technology on 390 traffic signal controllers to establish a real-time safety inspection system.

City officials said, “We will clean up the environment and thoroughly maintain facilities so that visitors and those returning home for the upcoming Chuseok holiday and the peak fall tourist season can leave with good memories and images of Yongin City.”
