Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced the winners of the ‘Yongin Special City Symbol Design Contest’ on the 9th. This contest was designed to find a symbol that embodies Yongin’s core values and future vision, and a total of 242 works were received. The city selected 9 of them as the final winners.
The judging was divided into five categories: symbolism, design, creativity, empathy, and expandability, and the final ranking was determined through expert review. Through the resolution of the City Symbol Management Committee, two grand prizes, four excellence awards, and three encouragement awards were selected as the winners.
One of the works selected for the grand prize, ‘Blossoming a New Future’, is a design created in the form of dots, symbolizing the image of Yongin as a cutting-edge digital science city centered on the semiconductor industry. This work was highly praised for expressing Yongin’s infinite possibilities and future.
In addition, another grand prize winning work, which was created as a logo using the Korean spelling of ‘Yongin’ and the English spelling of ‘Yongin’, received favorable reviews for its harmonious design of the Korean and English letters, which well captured the meaning of running Yongin and exciting Yongin.
In addition, seven works that expressed the various charms of Yongin, such as ‘Yongin with infinite possibilities’, ‘Yongin full of vitality and youth’, ‘Yongin where everyone wants to live’, and ‘Yongin, a connected city’, received awards of excellence and encouragement.
The award ceremony will be held in September, and the winners will be awarded with trophies and prize money. The award ceremony schedule will be announced individually.
Yongin Special City plans to use the excellent works selected in this contest for future surveys on citizen preference for symbols and production of city symbols after going through an advanced design process by design experts.
City officials said, “This contest received many creative works expressing the future of Yongin that citizens want,” and added, “We will work to develop a symbolic design that represents Yongin’s future and increase the value of the city and the pride of its citizens.”
