Eunpyeong-gu Library, '2024 Book Reading Cultural Volunteer Group' Inauguration Ceremony Held

Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) held an inauguration ceremony for the ‘2024 Book Reading Cultural Volunteer Group’ on the 2nd and announced that they will begin visiting culturally vulnerable groups’ institutions in earnest.

The ‘2024 Book Reading Cultural Volunteer Corps’ is a project hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Creative Content Agency. Eunpyeong-gu Library, which was selected as the local host, recruited and selected 20 volunteers and conducted book reading education from last June to this month.

After completing the training, the activists will visit 20 culturally vulnerable organizations for children, the elderly, and the disabled by the end of November. They will take the lead in providing opportunities to enjoy culture and creating an equal reading culture environment by operating a reading culture program consisting of a total of 200 reading sessions and related post-reading activities.

At the business briefing session held last month, officials from visiting organizations, activists, instructors, secretaries, business managers, and other relevant parties met together to establish the meaning and foundation of the book-reading cultural volunteer group project.

An activist who participated in the launching ceremony said, “I am nervous and worried about meeting the target audience, including children, the disabled, and the elderly, in person,” and added, “I am looking forward to being able to display my talents based on the book reading education that I participated in diligently during the hot summer.”

A library official said, “The future silver generation in their 50s or older will become the main body of the cultural volunteer group, and we support them in communicating with the culturally vulnerable through books, creating a culture of reading books in their daily lives, and carrying out their social role as talented donors.” He added, “We will do our best to support the cultural volunteer group’s smooth volunteer activities.”
