Uijeongbu City (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) was selected as an excellent local government at the 7th Youth-Friendly Dedication Awards in 2024 and won the grand prize in the communication category for the second consecutive year. Uijeongbu City was honored with this award in recognition of its contribution to creating a youth-friendly environment.
The Youth-Friendly Award is an award that was first given in 2018 and is now in its 7th year. It was established to recognize the achievements of organizations that have contributed to creating a youth-friendly environment. It is hosted by the Youth and Future Incorporated, an organization under the National Assembly Secretariat, and is evaluated based on the youth-friendly index in four areas: policy, legislation, support, and communication.
In order to realize the 8th local government goal of ‘a city changed by youth’, Uijeongbu City established the ‘Youth Policy Division’ to oversee and coordinate youth policies through reorganization in 2022. Through this, it is actively pursuing youth policies, and these efforts have led to winning this year’s Communication Award.

In particular, the city has introduced various programs to strengthen the participation and communication of young people. Major achievements include ▲Expansion of the operation of the Youth Council ▲Establishment of the Youth Space Youth Ajit ▲Operation of the Youth One-Day Honorary Market ▲Activation of the Youth Center Youth Empathy Center ▲Establishment of the Youth Policy Basic Plan (2024-2028) and Implementation Plan. It is evaluated that such differentiated policy promotion has greatly contributed to creating a youth-friendly environment.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun of Uijeongbu said, “This is the result of our efforts over the past year to listen to the voices of young people and reflect them in city administration,” and added, “We will continue to discover policies for a better life for young people and communicate more closely with young people to create a city led by young people.”
The Youth-Friendly Award Ceremony will be held on September 7th in the 1st small conference room of the National Assembly Members’ Hall along with the 8th Republic of Korea Youth Day Commemoration Ceremony.
