Uijeongbu City (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) held the ‘Uijeongbu 8 Scenic Sites Candidate Review Committee’ at the new city hall building on August 26, and began full-scale efforts to select the ‘Uijeongbu 8 Scenic Sites’. This committee discussed selecting 14 out of 24 tourist resources recommended by citizens as final candidate sites. Experts, professors, and citizen representatives from various fields participated in this review, and conducted in-depth discussions by comprehensively considering the accessibility, history, and usability of each candidate site.

This deliberation committee selected a total of 14 major landmarks representing Uijeongbu: ▲Mangwolsa Temple ▲Art Library ▲Suraksan Mountain Dojeongbong Peak ▲Songsan Temple Site ▲Seogye Park Se-dang Sarangchae and Nogang Seowon ▲Music Library ▲Uijeongbu 2-dong Cathedral ▲Uijeongbu Light Rail ▲Uijeongbu Arts Center ▲Uijeongbu First Market ▲Uijeongbu Curling Stadium ▲Jail Forest Bathing Area ▲Hoeryongsa Temple ▲Camp Red Cloud (CRC). In addition, three additional landmarks where you can enjoy a beautiful sunrise were selected: ▲Sapaesan Mountain Peak ▲Suraksan Mountain Dojeongbong Peak ▲Wondobongsan Mountain Podaeneungseon.

Park Seong-nam, the deputy mayor of Uijeongbu City, said, “This selection of the eight scenic spots is an important opportunity to reexamine the characteristics and value of Uijeongbu City and to promote the development of tourism resources,” and added, “Fairness and transparency were given the highest priority in the selection process.” He added, “We will select attractions that can meet the expectations of citizens and tourists.”

Uijeongbu City plans to conduct a ‘8-Scenery Final Selection Survey’ for citizens and tourists for approximately 3 months until November, targeting the candidate sites selected by this deliberation committee. The survey can be participated in through online channels such as the city hall website and social networking services (SNS), as well as QR codes on posters posted in real spaces (offline) within the city such as the city hall civil service office, each neighborhood community center, and light rail, and through the survey form placed at the comprehensive tourist information center.
