Anseong City is the first local government in the country to apply the ‘Anseong Customized Odor Reduction Smart Windowless Livestock Standard Model’ jointly developed with the Seoul National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, and the second and third pig farms have been completed in succession, and the livestock odor reduction project is in full swing. The completion of the second and third farms, which took place four months after the completion of the first farm on April 19, was promoted as part of the five-year livestock odor reduction plan, a key project of Anseong Mayor Kim Bo-ra.

A total of six smart windowless farms are scheduled to be completed within this year, and three have already been completed. In particular, all of the completed farms are operated by second-generation young successor farmers, suggesting a new alternative for sustainable livestock farming.

Anseong City is focusing on implementing a step-by-step reduction measure, such as converting more than 10% of pig farms to smart windowless barns from 2023 to 2027 and applying a standard of odor reduction facilities of more than 40%. Existing old open barns are being demolished and converted to odor-free smart windowless barns, and farms with frequent complaints are being encouraged to relocate, demolish, and close down through customized policies for farms.

Anseong Mayor Kim Bo-ra said, “We will successfully implement measures to reduce livestock odor and take the lead in improving the image of Anseong City and the livestock industry in Korea,” and “We will foster young successor farmers as next-generation leaders by expanding smart livestock farming and establish an alternative for sustainable livestock farming.”
