Gunpo City (Mayor Ha Eun-ho) successfully held a citizen discussion forum on August 21st to establish a basic plan for carbon neutral green growth. This discussion is an important part of the basic plan for carbon neutral green growth, a legal plan that Gunpo City is establishing with a 10-year planning period in conjunction with the national and Gyeonggi-do high-level plans, and aims to establish more effective policies through the participation of citizens.

On this day, around 70 diverse figures attended the discussion, including Gunpo Mayor Ha Eun-ho, City Council Speaker Kim Gwi-geun, City Council Vice Speaker Shin Geum-ja, Gyeonggi Research Institute’s Dr. Ko Jae-gyeong, Gunpo City Carbon Neutrality Consultant, Gyeonggi Province Carbon Neutrality Citizens’ Promotion Group, and Gunpo Citizens’ Society Council. In particular, Dr. Ko Jae-gyeong presented on the topic of ‘Gyeonggi Province-Local Government Carbon Neutrality Green Growth Basic Plan Linkage Plan,’ and Gunpo City Consultant shared ‘Current Status and Key Contents of Gunpo City Carbon Neutrality Green Growth Basic Plan Establishment.’

The discussion was moderated by Professor Jeong In-hwan of Hyupsung University, and four discussants, including Vice-Chairman of the City Council Shin Geum-ja, proposed various tasks for Gunpo City to achieve its carbon neutrality goal. Citizens requested that the city make more active efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, and hoped that this discussion would serve as an important stepping stone for Gunpo City to establish an effective and realistic carbon neutral green growth basic plan.

Gunpo Mayor Ha Eun-ho emphasized, “The recent extreme rainfall and heat waves are a strong warning from the Earth. Climate change is a serious threat to both present and future generations, so various policies and efforts aimed at carbon neutrality are needed to overcome it,” and “Cooperation between the city and the government as well as all citizens is essential, and the opinions expressed in this discussion will be of great help in promoting actual policies.”
