Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) is promoting the division of Yulim-dong, Cheoin-gu, in order to provide better administrative services to its residents as the population is rapidly increasing. At a resident briefing session held at the Yulim-dong Administrative Welfare Center on the 27th, the city explained its position on the Yulim-dong division plan and the schedule for its implementation, and listened to the opinions of the residents who participated.

At the briefing session that day, the majority of Yulim-dong residents supported the division plan and presented various opinions on the name and boundaries of the neighborhood after the division. Some residents suggested using the existing Yubang-dong name to respect the local unique name, while others insisted on using the names Yulim 1-dong and Yulim 2-dong to maintain a sense of local solidarity in the future.

Yulim-dong was created in 1996 when Yongin-gun was promoted to Yongin-si by integrating Yubang-ri and Gorim-ri of the old Yongin-eup. Its name was created by combining the ‘Yu’ of Yubang-dong and the ‘Rim’ of Gorim-dong.

The city is considering dividing Yulim-dong, where the population has surged due to large-scale urban development projects, into Yubang-dong and Gorim-dong based on Beopjeong-dong and Gyeongancheon Stream to more efficiently manage the area.

Yongin City will conduct a survey on the names and boundaries of the districts until September 9 so that residents who were unable to attend the briefing session can submit their opinions. The survey will be conducted at the Yulim-dong Administrative Welfare Center, and residents can submit opinions for or against the proposed names and boundaries, such as Yulim-dong and Gorim-dong, Yulim 1-dong and Yulim 2-dong, and Yubang-dong and Gorim-dong.

City officials said, “With the large-scale housing complexes in Bopyeong, Jindeok, Yubang, and Gorim districts, the population of Yulim-dong is expected to exceed 52,000 by the end of this year,” and “We plan to establish and implement a division plan that reflects the opinions of residents as much as possible.”
