Ongjin-gun County (Governor Jang Jeong-min) will begin accepting applications for its "2027 Housing Environment Improvement Project" to respond to population decline and improve housing welfare for residents of the county's islands. Applications will be received at each township office from Sept. 2 to Oct. 16.

The project is designed to improve living conditions for residents of offshore islands, who face geographic isolation and inconvenient transportation. The target areas are the four offshore island townships of Bukdo-myeon, Deokjeok-myeon, Jawol-myeon and Yeongheung-myeon.

Ongjin-gun County said that since the project began in 2012, it has improved approximately 1,174 aging households through last year. The current application period is a continuation of that ongoing effort.

Eligible applicants are residents who own aging homes on the offshore islands that were completed more than 20 years ago. Support is limited to rebuilding or renovating within the existing floor area, with Ongjin-gun County subsidizing 80% of total construction costs (up to 30 million won) while the remaining 20% is borne by the homeowner.

Ongjin-gun County expects the project to help ease population outflow by improving living conditions in island areas that continue to see population decline.

An Ongjin-gun County official said, "We hope that through this project, residents who have struggled to improve their housing environment due to the unique circumstances of island life will be able to enjoy a safer and more comfortable living environment."

Further details on application submission and beneficiary selection can be obtained by contacting the Landscape Improvement Team of Ongjin-gun County's Island Development Division at 032-899-3932~3.
