Jungnang District Hosts Seoul’s First Fashion Show for Adults with Developmental Disabilities: ‘Close-T’

 

서울 중랑구(구청장 류경기)는 지난 8일 중랑아트센터에서 서울시 자치구 중 최초로 성인 발달장애인 패션쇼 ‘클로젯(Close-T)’을 성공적으로 개최했습니다. 이 패션쇼는 발달장애인들이 직접 의상을 제작하고 모델로 무대에 오르는 방식으로 진행되었으며, 이는 전국적으로도 유례없는 시도로 발달장애인에 대한 사회적 편견을 깨고자 하는 의미 있는 행사로 큰 주목을 받았습니다. 이날 행사에는 류경기 구청장을 비롯해 여러 관계자들이 참석하여 응원의 메시지를 전했습니다.

 

On October 8, Seoul’s Jungnang District (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) successfully held ‘Close-T,’ the city’s first fashion show for adults with developmental disabilities, at the Jungnang Art Center. This unique fashion show allowed participants with developmental disabilities to both design their own clothes and model them on stage, marking a groundbreaking event in Korea. The event attracted notable attention as it sought to challenge societal biases toward people with disabilities. District officials, including Mayor Ryu, attended the show and expressed their support and encouragement for the participants.

‘클로젯(Close-T)’ 패션쇼는 중랑구 발달장애인평생교육센터의 교육생들이 참여하여, ‘중랑’을 상징하는 장미, 배꽃, 까치 등 지역적 요소를 담은 다양한 의상을 선보였습니다. 평소 쉽게 경험하기 어려운 패션쇼 무대에 직접 모델로 서고 관객의 환호를 받으면서 참가자들은 자긍심을 높이는 기회를 가졌습니다. 류경기 구청장은 이날 행사에서 “발달장애인들이 자신을 다양한 방식으로 표현할 수 있도록 지원하는 자리를 마련하게 되어 매우 뜻깊다”며 “이번 패션쇼가 장애에 대한 편견을 허물고, 장애인들이 지역 사회에서 더욱 활발하게 참여할 수 있는 계기가 되기를 바란다”고 소감을 밝혔습니다.

 

The fashion show featured students from the Jungnang Center for Lifelong Education of Adults with Developmental Disabilities, who modeled clothes inspired by symbols of Jungnang District, including roses, pear blossoms, and magpies. The participants, modeling their own creations on the runway, received enthusiastic responses from the audience. Mayor Ryu shared his appreciation for the event, saying, “I am proud to witness a fashion show that challenges stereotypes about people with disabilities and celebrates self-expression,” adding, “We will continue to support our residents in expressing themselves in various ways.”

 

한편, 중랑구는 ‘클로젯(Close-T)’ 패션쇼에 이어 중랑 동행 패션위크의 일환으로 ‘장애 공감 기획전시회’도 개최할 예정입니다. 10월 14일부터 23일까지 구청사 1층 로비에서 열릴 이번 전시회에서는 패션쇼에 사용된 의상뿐만 아니라 다양한 작품들이 함께 전시될 예정입니다. 중랑구는 이번 행사를 통해 장애인들이 사회와 더욱 가까워질 수 있는 장을 마련하는 데 주력하고 있으며, 앞으로도 장애인과 비장애인이 함께할 수 있는 다양한 프로그램을 이어갈 계획입니다.

 

Following the fashion show, the district will host another event as part of Jungnang Companion Fashion Week: the ‘Disability Awareness Exhibition.’ The exhibition will take place in the lobby of the Jungnang District Office from October 14 to October 23, displaying the costumes from the fashion show as well as other artworks. Through these events, Jungnang District aims to foster greater inclusion and interaction between people with and without disabilities and will continue to provide programs that promote unity and community involvement.
