‘Traces of Water’

MINK Artist Minjeong Kim Participates in Traces of Water, a Special Exhibition of Korean Artists in Venice

Shaping the Traces of Relationships Through Canvas and Ceramics

MINK artist Minjeong Kim, whose work visually explores human relationships, will participate in Traces of Water, a special exhibition featuring Korean artists in Venice, Italy, from July 22 to 28, 2026.

The exhibition will be held at Art Depot ai Biri Gallery in Venice and presented by Gallery Michelle. The title, Traces of Water, reflects the marks that people, environments, and human relationships leave behind in time and memory—just as flowing water leaves traces along its path.

Through this exhibition, Kim will present her continuing exploration of changing relationships, perspectives, and emotions through a distinctive visual language that combines canvas and ceramics.

MINK Minjeong Kim: An Artist Who Speaks Through Relationships

MINK Minjeong Kim is an artist who visually explores relationships between people, between people and space, and between individuals and society.

She studied ceramics at Hongik University and later earned a master’s degree in art planning from the university’s graduate school. Drawing on both her ceramic practice and her curatorial perspective, she has developed a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses artistic production, exhibitions, and education.

Kim expresses invisible emotions, memories, and traces of communication through a visual language that is both warm and contemporary. Throughout her work, relationships are not presented as completed or fixed outcomes, but as ongoing processes of change, growth, and reinterpretation.

Rather than offering predetermined answers, her work invites viewers to reconsider their own lives and relationships with others.

    > The same object can appear entirely different depending on the position from which it is viewed. Relationships, too, are not fixed forms; they can change according to one’s state of mind and perspective.

Relationships That Change Like Water and Remain as Traces

Traces of Water expands the meaning of water beyond a natural material, presenting it as a medium through which memories and relationships can be contemplated.

Water changes its direction and form according to its surroundings. Yet even when it appears to disappear, it leaves traces on surfaces, in spaces, and within memory. The relationships represented in Kim’s work share this quality.

The relationships within her works are never completely fixed. They continue to change according to a person’s position, emotional state, and the passage of time. Kim captures these moments of transformation through the combination of painting and ceramics.

The Venice exhibition is expected to provide an opportunity for Kim to expand the material foundations of Korean ceramic art into a contemporary pictorial space while communicating the universal theme of relationships to an international audience.

A New Sensibility in Korean Contemporary Art in Venice

Venice has long been a city where Eastern and Western cultures meet and interact. Its urban environment—where waterways, architecture, and layers of history overlap—naturally resonates with the exhibition theme of Traces of Water.

Within this setting, Kim’s work reveals the many layers of relationships that exist between nature and humanity, individuals and society, and encounters and separations. The combination of solid ceramic forms and fluid pictorial expression echoes the ways in which different beings coexist and form relationships within a shared space.

As viewers encounter mountains, buildings, earth, light, and black and metallic surfaces within the works, they are invited to consider the following question:

“From what angle am I looking at my relationships right now?”

Rather than offering an immediate solution to the difficulties of human relationships, Kim’s work presents a new perspective—one that encourages viewers to shift their familiar way of seeing.

This is the essence of what the artist describes as “relationships that change according to what the mind sees,” and it is the central message conveyed through this exhibition.
