The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Kim Yoon-deok) announced that it has selected 26 products and services incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) technology and will provide a combined 75 billion won in support over two years. The core aim is to rapidly commercialize AI in areas closely tied to public safety and daily life, from commuting on the roads to construction sites and residential spaces.

As part of the AI Application Rapid Commercialization Support Project (AX-Sprint), jointly pursued by 11 ministries and agencies, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport conducted an open call across all fields of land and transport and selected a total of 26 products and services incorporating AI technology. With the signing of agreements, the project now moves into full-scale implementation. Participating in the initiative are the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
The AX-Sprint project is being carried out for the first time this year. Unlike existing AI support programs, its distinguishing feature is that it targets fully developed products capable of reaching the market within a short period of one to two years. The intent is to ensure that AI does not remain at the research stage but is something the public can directly experience in everyday life.
The Land and Transport AX (AI Transformation) project held its open call from March 19 to April 20, divided into two areas: ‘land and transport’ and ‘roads and mobility.’ A total of 147 proposals were submitted (82 in land and transport, 65 in roads and mobility), recording an average competition ratio of 5.9 to 1. From these, 26 projects (14 in land and transport, 12 in roads and mobility) were ultimately selected after comprehensive consideration of factors such as commercialization potential and tangible benefits for the public.
Support is being provided along two tracks. Under the Agile track, which aims for market release within one year, 16 projects will receive 60 billion won this year, while under the Build-up track, which aims to complete development within two years, 10 projects will receive 15 billion won from 2026 through 2027.
The selected projects are directly connected to public safety and daily living. In the ‘land and transport’ field, physical AI-based spatial intelligence robots will independently assess the indoor environments of apartments or offices to deliver packages right to the front door, while AI construction robots will carry out hazardous demolition work in place of humans to support worker safety. In addition, non-contact AI measurement equipment will analyze multiple biosignals of railway workers to identify high-risk individuals with potential health abnormalities in advance, thereby eliminating accident-causing factors beforehand.
In the ‘roads and mobility’ field, autonomous safety robots operating within work zones will install and remove traffic cones in place of road workers, blocking their exposure to danger. Technologies such as AI-based road condition analysis, automatic detection of potholes (road surface depressions), and real-time AI traffic analysis to improve convenience for both pedestrians and drivers will also be introduced in the field.
Minister Kim Yoon-deok of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said, ‘The AX-Sprint project is a practical, field-ready AI initiative in which developed technologies are swiftly deployed on-site to raise the quality of life for the public.’ He added, ‘To produce results that the public can tangibly experience across all fields of land and transport, we will work with the relevant ministries and do our utmost in follow-up support such as procurement and market access.’
By bringing artificial intelligence technology out of the laboratory and into real-life settings—assigning dangerous work to robots while strengthening human safety—this project is expected to serve as an occasion for the public to directly confirm the usefulness of AI in their daily lives.
