이영숙 배우는 모델과 배우라는 두 영역을 오가며 자신만의 활동 폭을 넓혀왔다. 모델 활동에서는 짧은 시간 동안 온전히 자신에게 집중하며 무대 위에서 표현할 수 있다는 점에 매력을 느낀다고 말했다.
배우 활동의 매력은 또 다르다. 여러 인물을 연기하면서 각자의 삶을 간접적으로 경험하고 이해할 수 있기 때문이다. 그는 다양한 배역을 통해 새로운 삶을 느껴보고 알아가는 과정에서 성장하는 자신을 발견한다고 설명했다.
모델에게 무대 위 짧은 순간은 강한 집중력과 표현력을 요구한다. 배우는 작품 속 인물의 감정과 삶을 이해하고 이를 카메라 앞에서 설득력 있게 표현해야 한다. 이영숙은 두 경험을 함께 쌓으며 모델과 배우라는 영역을 자연스럽게 연결해가고 있다.
최근에는 국내를 넘어 해외 패션 무대에서도 활동했다. 국제뉴스는 지난 7월 이영숙이 프랑스 파리 국립 기메 박물관에서 열린 글로벌 패션 프로젝트 무대에 시니어 모델로 참여했다고 보도했다. 당시 그는 유지영 디자이너 컬렉션 모델로 참여해 한국 시니어 모델들과 함께 무대에 올랐다.
연기와 모델 활동뿐 아니라 영화 관련 분야에서도 역할을 넓혀가고 있다. 이영숙은 현재 국제민속영화제 운영이사 및 홍보대사, 국제언론인클럽 이사, 한국영화배우협회 운영이사로 활동하고 있다. 국제민속영화제는 세계 각 지역의 전통과 삶을 소재로 한 작품을 소개하며 문화교류를 지향하고 있다.

여러 직책 가운데 가장 중요하게 생각하는 것이 무엇인지에 대해 이영숙은 특정한 직함보다 영화인으로서 가져야 할 태도를 강조했다.
그는 영화와 관련된 모든 일을 잘 소화해 나가면서 영화인으로서 부끄럽지 않은 진솔한 마음을 지키는 것이 중요하다고 말했다. 배우와 모델, 영화제와 영화 관련 단체 활동이 서로 다른 영역처럼 보이지만, 그 중심에는 영화와 문화예술에 대한 애정이 자리하고 있다는 설명이다.
현재 촬영 중인 페미, 반페미에서 맡은 박희영 부장 역 역시 이영숙 배우에게 새로운 도전이다. 박희영은 수빈의 선배로 등장하며 직장 안에서 여성들이 마주하는 현실과 공정한 대우에 대한 바람을 전달하는 인물이다.

Actress Lee Young-sook is continuing to film the movie Femi, Anti-Femi, presenting a new side of herself as an actress. In the film, Lee plays Park Hee-young, a department head and senior colleague of the character Su-bin. Through the role, she said she hopes to convey the feelings of women who want to receive fair treatment in the workplace without discrimination based on gender. Filming is currently underway.
Lee Young-sook has expanded her career by moving between the worlds of modeling and acting. She said one of the things she enjoys about modeling is that, even for a short time, the stage becomes entirely her own space where she can focus on and express herself.
Acting offers a different kind of appeal. By portraying various characters, she is able to experience and understand different lives indirectly. She explained that taking on diverse roles allows her to discover herself growing as she encounters and learns about new ways of life.
For a model, even a brief moment on stage requires intense concentration and expressive ability. An actor, meanwhile, must understand a character’s emotions and life and convey them convincingly in front of the camera. Lee has continued to build experience in both fields, naturally connecting her work as a model and an actress.
More recently, she has also taken her career beyond Korea to overseas fashion stages. In July, Gukje News reported that Lee participated as a senior model in a global fashion project held at the Musée Guimet, the National Museum of Asian Arts in Paris, France. She appeared in designer Yoo Ji-young’s collection alongside other Korean senior models.
In addition to acting and modeling, Lee has expanded her involvement in the film industry. She currently serves as an executive director and promotional ambassador for the International Folk Film Festival, a director of the International Journalists Club, and an executive director of the Korea Film Actors Association. The International Folk Film Festival aims to promote cultural exchange by introducing films that portray the traditions and lives of people from different regions around the world.
When asked which of her various positions she considers most important, Lee emphasized not a particular title but the attitude she believes a person in the film industry should maintain.
She said what matters most is handling every responsibility related to film well while maintaining a sincere attitude that she can be proud of as a member of the film community. Although acting, modeling, film festivals, and organizational activities may appear to be different fields, she explained that they are all connected by her passion for film, culture, and the arts.
Her role as Park Hee-young in the currently filming Femi, Anti-Femi is another new challenge for Lee Young-sook. Park is Su-bin’s senior colleague and represents the concerns of women in the workplace, as well as their desire to be treated fairly.
Lee said she hopes to express through her performance the feelings of women who want to be evaluated fairly according to their abilities and responsibilities rather than being treated differently simply because of their gender.
She also has a clear goal for the future. Lee Young-sook is currently preparing a work titled Hawa, which is based on her own story, and she has identified completing the project successfully as one of her most important goals.
Turning her own life and experiences into a creative work represents another challenge for her as an actress. Rather than only portraying the lives of others, Hawa will allow her to shape her own story into a finished work, making it a project that could help define the next stage of her career.
One word that repeatedly appears throughout Lee’s journey is challenge. Taking to new stages, accepting new roles, and expanding into film and cultural activities have all been part of an ongoing process of creating new opportunities.
She also emphasized the importance of taking on challenges for middle-aged and senior people who may be considering a new beginning.
Lee said that only those who take on challenges can gain opportunities and move forward, adding that she would encourage people to try whatever it is they truly want to do.
Her message is that age does not have to define when a person can begin something new. Each new role, stage, and experience can lead to another opportunity.
Lee Young-sook continues to move between film sets and modeling stages while expanding the scope of her career. She is also continuing her activities related to the International Folk Film Festival and other areas of the film industry.
Her role as Department Head Park Hee-young in the currently filming Femi, Anti-Femi, along with her personal project Hawa, points to the new directions she hopes to explore. Attention is now focused on how Lee Young-sook’s ongoing challenges, which began across the two stages of acting and modeling, will continue to develop within film, culture, and the arts.
