Yeonsu-gu (연수구), Incheon — led by District Chief Lee Jae-ho (이재호) — held the '2026 Patriots and Veterans Commemoration Ceremony' on June 26 at the grand auditorium of the Veterans Hall, honoring the sacrifices of national merit recipients and their bereaved families. With more than 130 members of local veterans organizations in attendance — including the Yeonsu-gu chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association (6·25참전유공자회 연수구지회) — the ceremony proceeded with a performance by the district's traditional arts troupe, the presentation of commendation awards to exemplary national merit recipients, and congratulatory remarks from the district chief and distinguished guests.

Yeonsu-gu Veterans Hall Opens in March, Equipped with Exhibition and Welfare Facilities
Yeonsu-gu opened its newly constructed Veterans Hall in March of this year and has been continuously expanding the range of services and honors extended to national merit recipients. Inside the hall, a Veterans Exhibition Hall displays artifacts related to the Korean War (6·25전쟁) and the Vietnam War (베트남전쟁), a replica of a nationally designated treasure Taegukgi, and donated medals of military merit.
Outside the hall, a large Taegukgi flagpole standing 33 meters tall has been erected, and a flag-raising and lowering ceremony involving veterans organization members has become a regular event.
Tailored Veterans Welfare Programs Offered, Including Health, Healing, and Counseling Services
Yeonsu-gu is also running a range of welfare programs for national merit recipients, including health and healing classes, practical skills courses, integrated counseling services, and a veterans cinema.
The district also plans to launch a Veterans Hall tour program for children and teenagers to broaden the sharing of veterans' values across generations.
District Chief Lee Jae-ho: "Veterans Commemoration Must Be a Value Shared with Future Generations"
District Chief Lee Jae-ho stated, 'Today's Republic of Korea was built on the sacrifices and dedication of our national merit recipients,' adding, 'We will pursue a wide range of policies so that the spirit of veterans commemoration can be felt in everyday life — not as a memory belonging to any one generation, but as a value shared by all residents of the district, including future generations.'
