The Juan 6-dong Residents' Autonomous Council (Chairman Park Young-gyu) in Michuhol-gu District conducted training on proper household waste disposal on June 30 around the Bogwon Housing area (20 Juan-ro 160beon-gil), a hotspot for illegal dumping. The event was arranged as part of 'Refreshing Our Neighborhood,' a resident-participation environmental improvement project in which residents themselves take the lead in caring for the neighborhood environment.

'Refreshing Our Neighborhood' is a project in which residents themselves clean up illegal dumping hotspots and expand a culture of proper household waste disposal. It is significant in that residents, rather than the administration unilaterally cracking down, become the main actors in solving problems in daily life.

The session was conducted as on-site training in which council members directly guided residents on disposal methods. They explained one by one how to separate household waste, recyclables and food waste, on which days and at what times to dispose of them, and how to use volume-based garbage bags. As it was hands-on training conducted on-site rather than in theory, the focus was on translating it into residents' everyday practice.
On-site, council members, the Juan 6-dong chief, dong staff and local residents took part together in promotion and guidance activities. The Juan 6-dong Residents' Autonomous Council plans to continue environmental cleanup and promotion of proper disposal, focusing on vulnerable areas.

Kim Jong-eop, chair of the environment and safety subcommittee of the Juan 6-dong Residents' Autonomous Council, said, "The small efforts of residents participating and practicing directly are a great driving force in creating a clean and livable neighborhood," adding, "We will continue to build a mature culture of resident autonomy together with residents." A dong official also said, "We thank the council members and residents who took part actively despite the hot weather," adding, "We will continue to cooperate with the Residents' Autonomous Council to establish a culture of proper waste disposal and do our best to create a clean and pleasant Juan 6-dong."
