Out-of-school youths spent time exploring their own career paths by moving freely between books, writing and artificial intelligence (AI). The Out-of-School Youth Support Center of Michuhol-gu District in Incheon (Mayor Kim Jeong-sik) announced on July 1 that it had concluded a career-exploration reading program run to help out-of-school youths develop reading habits and explore their career paths.

The program is a joint project carried out in partnership with Subong Library for the fifth consecutive year. It was designed to help youths encounter books of various genres and find their own career paths, and was conducted over a total of seven sessions from this past May through July 1.
A distinctive feature of this year's program was that it was organized as a form of "convergence reading" combining generative AI technology, which has drawn attention recently, with the wisdom of classical humanities. The youths reconstructed their own lives as a single "voyage narrative" grounded in the humanities, and drew a strong response as they had the special experience of publishing their own books using generative AI.
One youth who took part in the program said, "The process of writing on my own was not easy, but it felt fresh and rewarding, as if I had gotten an early taste of being an author, which had long been my goal."
A center official said, "This program was a meaningful time in which out-of-school youths explored their own potential and career paths together by combining reading, writing and generative AI," adding, "We will continue to work with local institutions to run a variety of programs that support youths' self-directed growth and career exploration."
