Incheon's Jemulpo-gu District (Mayor Kim Chan-jin) is holding a special visual arts exhibition titled "Jemulpo Wave" to commemorate the launch of the autonomous district on July 1. The exhibition runs from July 16 to Sept. 29 at Woori Art Museum in Manseok-dong and has been organized as the first cultural event of the newly integrated district.

The exhibition is designed as a festival bringing together visual artists based in the former Jung-gu and Dong-gu areas — the foundation of the newly launched Jemulpo-gu — to gather in one place and connect. The aim is to ensure that the merger of administrative districts leads to a fusion of culture and the arts.
Woori Art Museum, the venue for the exhibition, is located in Goyangiburi Village in Jemulpo-gu. Opened in 2015 after an empty house in the village was remodeled into an exhibition space, the museum has provided local residents with opportunities to enjoy culture and the arts. As of this July, it has been incorporated as a museum of Jemulpo-gu, continuing its role as a key hub supporting the activities of local artists.
In line with the district's launch, Jemulpo-gu carried out a major expansion of the museum's space. A nearby abandoned factory that had long been neglected was newly developed into an exhibition and cultural facility, and the new wing opened this March. This special exhibition will be held on an even grander scale by making use of the expanded space.
"Jemulpo Wave" features 30 artists from the former Jung-gu and Dong-gu presenting a wide range of works. The participating artists include Kang Sun-ok, Kang Cheol, Ko Je-min, Ko Jin-o, Kwon Kyung-ae, Kim Mun-sun, Kim Young-gyu, Kim Jung-suk, Kim Jung-yeol, Kim Jung-hee, Kim Ha-rin, Kim Hyung-ki, Park Song-woo, Park Jin-hwa, Seo Hyun-soo, Oh Hyo-seok, Yu Jin-suk, Yu Tae-su, Lee Ji-song, Lee Chang-gu, Lee Chun-ja, Lee Hyun-joo, Cho Se-min, Cho Woo, Choi Kyo-sang, Choi Myung-ja, Choi Byung-guk, Choi Jung-suk, Heo Baek and Hong Sung-mo.
The exhibition will be held consecutively in two parts. Part 1 runs from July 16 to Aug. 20, and Part 2 from Aug. 28 to Sept. 29, at Woori Art Museum's Exhibition Hall 2 (3-11, Hwadojin-ro 192beon-gil, Jemulpo-gu). Viewing hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays; the museum is closed every Monday and on public holidays. Admission is free, and further details are available on the Woori Art Museum website (www.wooriart.co.kr, tel. 032-745-3206~7).
Jemulpo-gu Mayor Kim Chan-jin said, "This exhibition is a signal that, beyond the merger of administrative districts, the two areas are becoming one through culture and the arts," adding, "We expect it will serve as an occasion for residents to experience Jemulpo-gu's new vision for culture and the arts, and the current of change, through Woori Art Museum."
