The Michuhol-gu Youth Center (Director Ko Seok-chan) held a "Department and Career Talk" by its 2026 college mentor group "Unicorn" for 229 middle school students at Gwangyo Middle School on the 1st. The event was designed so that college seniors could share their experiences firsthand with middle school students, who often feel uncertain as they approach career decisions.

The talk was organized to help students explore their career paths more concretely, with college mentors vividly conveying their own major selection processes and college life experiences to the young participants.

Nine college mentors affiliated with the center took part in the talk. Starting with mentor introductions and rapport-building, they went on to cover the career exploration process, experiences of deciding or changing their career paths, efforts to achieve their dreams, the process of selecting a major, and the fields available for each major.

The mentors did not stop at providing information about academic departments; they candidly shared the trial and error they experienced while agonizing over their careers, drawing empathy from the students. This was followed by an open question-and-answer session in which students freely asked about college life, department studies, and how to prepare for university admission.

Ahead of the talk, the college mentor group went through a preparation process that included training in personal branding and content production, lecture planning, and lecture demonstrations with feedback. In effect, it was advance training to enhance the quality of the talk.

One Gwangyo Middle School student who attended the talk said, "The process of choosing a career felt vague, but after hearing the actual experiences of the college mentors, I learned what kind of preparation and effort I need to make the right career decision for myself." Oh Jung-hyun, president of the college mentor group, said, "Looking back on my middle and high school days when I agonized over my career, it was meaningful to be able to share my experiences with younger students," adding, "I hope this talk helps young people discover their areas of interest and think about their careers on their own terms."

Director Ko Seok-chan said, "The vivid experiences of college seniors can serve as an opportunity for young people to view their careers in a familiar and realistic way," adding, "We will continue to prepare various activities through which college students and local youth can grow together."

The Michuhol-gu Youth Center's college mentor group is an initiative in which college students support local youth in exploring their careers based on their own majors and experiences. Beginning with this department and career talk, the center plans to continue with project activities and community-linked activities.
