Property tax is a local tax imposed each year, regardless of how long a property has been owned, on whoever holds the property as of the tax base date of June 1. The timing of assessment varies by property type: in July, tax is levied on half of the housing portion as well as on buildings, ships and aircraft, while in September, the remaining half of the housing portion and the tax on land are levied.
Those subject to the tax must pay by July 31. Payment can be made via bank transfer or credit card without visiting a financial institution in person, using Internet Giro (giro.or.kr), Wetax (wetax.go.kr), the automated response service (ARS, 142-211), or cash dispensers/ATMs at banks nationwide.
The district noted that ARS payment access may be delayed if many users attempt to connect near the deadline, and advised residents to pay in advance where possible or to use alternative methods such as Wetax, CD/ATMs, or credit cards.
Inquiries related to property tax are handled according to residents' area of residence. Residents in the old downtown area can contact the Property Tax Team of Yeonsu-gu District's Tax Division (032-749-7489), while residents in the Songdo-dong area can contact the Songdo Property Tax Team of the Songdo Tax Division at Yeonsu-gu District's Second Government Complex (032-749-7470) for assistance.
Applying for both electronic billing and automatic account transfer at the same time entitles residents to a tax credit of 800 won for each, for a total of 1,600 won. Inquiries about applications can be directed to Yeonsu-gu District's Tax Division (032-749-7483).
A Yeonsu-gu District official explained that property tax revenue is used to fund resident welfare and local development, and urged residents to pay within the deadline, noting that a late-payment penalty will be added if the deadline is missed.
