Naerimaru Culture Rest Space entered the contest under the theme "A Mixed-Use Building on Historical Traces: Envisioning Coexistence as a Culture Rest Space Without Eviction," and was recognized for its contribution to expanding residents' voluntary participation in cultural activities and revitalizing everyday culture by serving as a community-based cultural facility hub.
Naerimaru Culture Rest Space is a community culture center that opened as a multipurpose cultural space in April 2025, after exploring diverse ways to preserve the space's historical value while fostering coexistence with residents.
The Jemulpo Culture Foundation has carried out a range of programs to establish the venue as a leading cultural hub for local residents, artists and clubs. While developing and running demand-tailored cultural and arts programs such as the Rest ("Shim") Center School humanities-arts academy, humanities programs for the middle-aged and youth, and the Kkumdarak Culture and Arts School, the foundation has also laid the groundwork for a sustainable cultural space by securing funding through culture and arts contest projects and offering the venue for rental on a regular basis.
The award recognized the foundation's efforts to connect Naerimaru Culture Rest Space to residents and cultural and arts figures as an open cultural space, through the development and operation of customized cultural and arts programs for various age groups and the active pursuit of contest-based projects.
Chairman Kim Chan-jin said, "This award is a meaningful achievement made possible by residents' active participation and the foundation's capacity to develop and operate diverse programs," adding, "We will continue to develop a variety of everyday culture programs tailored to residents' needs."
In the second half of this year, the foundation plans to further enrich specialized programs based at Naerimaru Culture Rest Space, including Shim; Concert, the Rest ("Shim") Center School, the Changjak (Creative) Rest Space, and the Kkumdarak Culture and Arts School. Details will be announced through the Jemulpo Culture Foundation website (https://www.jcf.or.kr/) and its official social media accounts, and inquiries can be directed to the foundation's Local Culture Team (☎070-4123-8106).
